Or you could go light and explosive....like a 36gr varmint grenade or the like. Hopefully get a small entrance hole and no exit.

I really like having the safety there....especially with the thumbhole stock. With the safety in the normal spot you have to take your thumb out of the hole to work it. The way this is setup I don't have to move from my firing position on the stock. Takes a little getting used to but I like it...
Here's pics of the rifle. It's a custom built on a stiller tac 30AW. Muellerworks barrel 24", 1:8.5 twist rem varmint contour. Barrel is threaded 5/8x24 and has a muzzle break on it made by one of our own here on the forum. Manners T-5A stock with mini chassis. Leupold mark IV 6.5-20x50 FFP...
Kodiak, Just the standard CCI large rifle primers.
Scotty here's the range card with that load out to 1500 yards in my current conditions (26.48 station pressure, 27 degrees with a 5mph wind).

I wouldn't underestimate the 260 for elk. A good 140gr bullet has a very good sectional density and will penetrate sufficiently. I wouldn't feel lacking with a 260 and a 140gr bullet for elk.

You definitely should give it a go. It's been incredibly consistent in mine. I'm getting single digit SD and great accuracy. It's slightly less velocity than what I got with H4350 but I'll trade a few fps for the other benefits!

I still can't believe that group using 3 different loads....that was a combination of 129gr ABLR, 140 Berger VLD hunting and 140 Berger hybrid using a different powder than the load I ended up with. Amazing that all 3, all at different velocities, shot to basically the same POI.

Got my buddies 308 that I'm loading for shooting finally after a ton of issues....and then it was my turn with the 260. Here's a pic of the 308 group.
I've been tinkering with loads and chasing every little bit of accuracy with my 260 to the point that I haven't settled on a load for more...
As a LEO my view of most holidays has become....well skewed. I tend to dread them now when I used to look forward to them.

Agreed. I like to check mine after mounting by shooting a group then dialing about 10 mils and repeat. Checking for straight up and down tracking as well as appropriate distance of travel. But if the reticle isn't level with the scope, for me at least, I figure I paid lots of money for a high...
If you have a picatinny rail mount it's super easy! Most scopes have a flat spot on the bottom of the scope under the elevation dial. Rail is flat....bottom of scope is flat.....put a set of feeler gauges between the two and tighten rings, and you're done!

They've got the blems marked down to $27.95! I believe that price is only for today though....
I've got several boxes coming....been wanting to give them a try in my 300H&H and I think they'll be a good bullet in my buddies 30-06 that I load for.

Apparently these existed at some point.....

However I see nothing on SPS indicating that it's a regularly produced item. Figured since Nosler had acquired SSA maybe someone on here might have some insight as to if they ever plan on making...
Yup. You're not going to see much effect until you get to extended ranges because it will alter the ballistic coefficient in a non uniform way resulting in unpredictable results.

I hold off for windage rather than dial so I prefer FFP. That way I don't have to be on full magnification to have accurate wind holds.

I use the vortex one on my long range rifles. Fairly cheap and seem to be well made. No complaints from me about them!

1/2" AR500 is probably overkill unless you are planning on hitting it with high velocity super rounds at 100. I've got a 3/8" AR500 target that I shoot often that has held up without a mark in the steel for several years with calibers up to 338 Lapua.
Check this guy out. Makes very high...
I would think that 300 RUM is well suited for a heavy ABLR or hornady ELD-X. Might as well take advantage of the horsepower and launch some long sleek bullets! Besides with the higher sectional density you wouldn't have to worry about it only getting to one lung on a shoulder shot on a deer...
