I shot this buck this afternoon today with my 300 RUM and a 150 grain AccuBond. Used the G7 rangefinder to get the correct MOA for the 552 yard shot. The buck dropped on the spot I hit him in the right shoulder and was still alive when I got up to him so he got one more in the neck.

Surprised that he was still alive taking it through the shoulder...what was the bullet performance like? Any issues that you noticed with penetration or expansion? Nice looking buck by the way!

I could have let him expire on his own but I dont like to see an animal suffer. The bullet did not pass thru but did get to one lung. I will be switching to 180 Ballistic tips next year. If I'm going to hunt elk or moose then I'll load some 180 or heavier Accubonds.

STW, that is a fine buck, congratulations on a great shot.
Thanks for sharing.

Blessings,
Dan

Definitely took out the shoulder. He wasn't going to be getting up too quickly.

I would think that 300 RUM is well suited for a heavy ABLR or hornady ELD-X. Might as well take advantage of the horsepower and launch some long sleek bullets! Besides with the higher sectional density you wouldn't have to worry about it only getting to one lung on a shoulder shot on a deer!
