Apologies for the late reply -
My 180 grain Accubonds are at 3.739 - Yes, I feed it only one pill at a time.
I also gave up on the Big 3 hitters on powder for this round and went with
IMR-7828 with much better results.
I don't subscribe to the ladder test either - I'll usually start with the bullet I would like to use and cross ref several manuals to choose a powder. As Dr. Mike said, usually even in one grain increments.
The ONE CRITICAL element in my opinion however is change only one item at a time. If...
Yote beat me to it -
If you don't mind the $$$ of the brass and you're going to build one 6.5x47 hands down.
If brass is an issue - the .260 or AI will be very difficult to beat.
95gr V-max or 100gr B-tip will ruin any yotes day. Depending on barrel twist, the 130gr A.B. has done well on elk...
Thanks Jim - Been too darn cold around here to get out and try the new Leupy. I keep looking out the window with
it, and starting to like the Mil-dots more and more. Two more scopes and all my guns will be covered - guess that means it's time for more guns eh ?
Well, it will be the normal list of tags this year.
I won't say unfortunately, but I had decided in November that I was going to put the rifles down for a few years and bring
the Hoyt back out. I've taken both elk and one coues with my bow - the one that escapes me is a decent Mulie.
Send for...
Great choice on caliber for the youngster - actualy a great gun for anyone to have in their safe.
If it's anything like most 7-08's it will probably shoot what ever you send down the tube fairly well.
That is one rifle in my safe that is not picky. IMR-4350 with 120's - 150's work great as...
Heath -
I've been using H414 as the go to load with 130gr AB's out of one of my .260's I can't say I've been on the extreme hot
side, however have yet to see any issues @ -20deg F.
I have somehting about that powder - just not sure yet - seems difficult to believe it achieves the results it...
Songdog -
Which rifle did you put that scope one ? I just purchaed a Mark AR as well. I really like the mid-size turrets.
POP - I have (2) 12X Leupys & (2) 16X Leupys with the target turrets and never take the caps off - too much of a pain it seems in the field at least.
I think the only true overlap I have is the 2 .260's, however not an issue at all, since one is definately belongs to the wife.
diameter overlap yes - 7-08 / .280 / 7mag.
I try not to purchase the same caliber that I already have - hence the "need" for the .270wsm that is the most current rifle...
DF -
Great shooting !
I have both those powders and would definately like to get one of them to shoot. I've shy'd away from the 60gr B-tips only because I can't walk in and purchase them. Hope I can get out this weekend with a few recomendations and give it a try.
For my big game rifles it actually depends on what and where I'm hunting.
The high open elevations I like the 200yd zero - I'm with Mike on this as in the past before
I've had the oportunity to have these fancy reticles a shot out to 350 was about max.
The varmint reticle on my .300RUM gets me...
Thanks for the recomendations - hopefully by months end I'll have it restocked and ready
for further load developement. I did purchase a box of 69gr SMK's as well. Hopefully I can
see some consistency in one of the loads and work on tweaking it from there.
Hegland - Great group ! That is...
Scotty - good to see it's coming together. It stinks when we get an idea of a paticular bullet weight / range
we'd like to use and then the gun blows that idea all to heck. As long as the lighter bullets shoot good, and you're comfortable with the rifle, I wouldn't hesitate to use them...
My .22 Cal's are covered
Only have one .243 Cal - it's covered
.257  115BT works great - AB in 120gr Would be nice for the Wby's
.260  130gr AB works great ! 100gr Version would be cool
.270 - Covered AB's work great
.284>>>>> 120gr Accubond PLEASE :!: :!: ...
I've been on the fence of trading or getting rid of my Rem 700 VTR in .223 since I've not seen the results that I would like.
One of the biggest reasons I purchased the VTR was because of the 1:9 twist in a bolt action rifle - hopefully would allow me to shoot the 70gr VLD's.....
Well, after...
