90 gr Blems from MidwayUSA, Hunter, & WLRMs from 257 AI.
I treated em like TTSXs; left a nice long jump to lands. That was my first time out, but haven't tried any other configurations through any other rifles.
I have a really beautiful custom LR 98 in 7x57 getting some finishing touches right now. Hoping to hunt with it this fall. As soon as it's in my possession I'll post up pics.
Hoping to get 150 NBTs shooting through it for pronghorn, and 120 NBTs for whitetails here.
Thanks a lot Guy for...
Don't ask Don't tell is gone so you can embrace the 270 now Scotty ;) !
Great times right there Guy; my 12 yo & I are doin something similar w/ our Bobs this Saturday!! Can't wait!!
That sounds awesome. I think I am going to get my Win M70 (now 280 AI) a Douglas 6-06 barrel so I'll end up w/ a 7x57 & 7 MSM.
What do you think you can get speed-wise from a 145 gr LRX?
I'd say that based upon my limited experience that you may well have an under-spec die that is over working the brass as Kraky suggested.
I had this issue with a 338-06 die of theirs, sent it to them with an explanation of the problem (there was no disputing the issue) and they sent it back...
Yes, dimensions of brass will change. I haven't found that to be an issue for me. One thing of note is that each time you fire and full length size cases you work harden the brass removing it's elasticity. This reduces case life. By next sizing, you can increase case life because you're not work...
Ray,
You know all I've ever used for any type of ammo (hunting, target, blasting) in my bolt guns is neck sizers. The vast majority are LCDs, but there are cartridges that aren't covered by Lee so I use the Hornady caliber-specific neck sizers in those rifles. I don't FLS hunting ammo, but...
Nice shooting WT; I did some shooting recently too. No groups; just a little Fireforming in the 280AI:
...and steel smacking w/ the AR:
It was -10 and I warmed my hands over hot brass ;) !
The time has come fer burning all the powder we've been dumpin all winter!!! WHEW HA!!
Cleaning out carbon from inside fired cases is not necessary in the least. Unless running a tumbler I wouldn't pay it the slightest mind.
I don't bother cleaning out primer pockets either; there have been tests that show it's a waste of time.
I don't need to lube the inside of the case necks...
When they were initially released I thought they & the GMX would be too hard due to their harder material compared to the solid copper of the Barnes. The reports I've seen from credible sources suggest that hasn't been the case, so as with any compare/contrast exercise with two good choice, I'd...
^ that; I buy 8s of my MAJORS, and try to have just a few majors. Those are powders that work REALLY well; those I try first.
IMR-4350 used to be one & I'm about done with it. My others are RL15, Big Game, and now replacing 4350, Hunter.
That right there is totally me. Over the last few years I've bought more stuff than will fit in my work area so now the WHOLE THING (not JUST the bench, tho that's in DIRE NEED also) looks like a MidwayUSA jet blew up over my house, showering it's contents down into my workspace!
I am blessed...
I'd check out the 130 TTSX, 150 & 165 NABs, and the 165 & 168 NBTs and use whatever your rifle likes best.
The new NBTs perform right up there w/ the NAB & NPT. I REALLY love that 168 and most importantly my 06 does too!
This week I stopped by the radiator shop where Jim & I have gotten components for years. He had IMR-4451, RL-23, and 162 AMs aplenty.
There didn't seem to be much he didn't have propellant-wise, and while I didn't look for anything bullet-wise he had a ton there too. Those 162s just happened...

Sorry got cut short; hard to argue w/ Gene's results!
Honestly I had a 338-06 at the time I stumbled into the 325 and couldn't see what the wizzum had to offer over the 06 cept expensive brass, limited bullet selection, one less in the...
