    257 Weatherby - IMR 4831

This is posted in other forums, so if you saw it there I am sorry for the duplication. I have a brand new .257 Weatherby to play with (Remington 700 CDL) and I have all of the "go to" powders for the cartridge as I had a Mark V POS that kept sucking me in. Powders on hand are H-1000, RL-25...

Retumbo and 180 gr AB in 300 win mag ?

Been there, done that. Good luck getting enough RETUMBO in the case to get the job done. Starting load for the 200 grain Partition in the.300 Win Mag is 79 grains, topping out at 84 grains. Should take more for a 180 grain bullet. IME RL22 ended up being the cat's pajamas. I only wish I...

    180 grain accubond

You bet!!!! I drove a 200 grain Accubond out of my .300WM through the on shoulder of a 5x5 bull at 30 yards...it did the job in short order with 51% weight retention. I have since switched to the 180 grain version and have put several more elk in the freezer. No worries with the accubond here.

    reloading for coyotes

I don't save the hides...I have shot coyote with both and prefer the 55's. I currently load them over RL15, but looking for other options.

    Nosler Manual #6?

I am really excited about getting it as well...but I want to know something about it before I buy it: What did they do with the .257 Weatherby Data. The last few issues of the manual have been a regurgitation of the same data. I want new data with the new bullet (110 Accubond) with some of...

    Accubond vs Partition

Go ahead and shoot the 180 grain Accubonds. I have personally taken, or witnessed taken 11 different elk with this particular bullet out of either .300 Win Mags or .300 RUM's. The ranges have run from as little as 30 yards (.300 Win Mag) and 75 yards (.300 RUM) to a touch over 500 yards (.300...

We had horse shot this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, no update. The Dept. of Fish and Game dug the bullet out for evidence in case they can tie it to some other scumbag crime...but nothing new. Thanks for asking.

We had horse shot this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just found out that my father-in-law had one of his prize horses shot within the last two days. Looks like the "trophy" hunter made a great one shot kill right behind the shoulder. This incident occurred between late dusk on Tuesday the 16th and the late afternoon of Thursday the 18th. It...

    Weatherby Mark V pressure ???????

I have a .257 Weatherby Magnum in a Mark V Deluxe that I have tried and tried to get to shoot consistently. Just when I think I have things looking promising...it goes to frustration in a hurry. I went shooting last week and a load that showed promise (more than once) went to hell. A load that...

.257 Weatherby Magnum - Load Data

Kimberdude, Don't feel bad. I couldn't get 110 accubonds to group worthy of a shotgun with IMR 7828, but it is the cats azz with the 115 grain Ballistic Silvertip in the same rifle...go figure. I know people squawk a lot about temperature sensitivity in the RL series of powders, but I suggest...

.257 Weatherby Magnum - Load Data

RemmyTim, Out of curiousity, which RL powders were you working with? I have played with RL15, RL22 and RL25. Thanks

.257 Weatherby Magnum - Load Data

I think the hype around the RL powders being any more sensitive to temperature swings is overated. It sure appears to get a lot of press, but there doesn't seem to be alot of hard, factual research to back it up. I think the RL powders get a bum rap because of lot to lot variation (which they...

    .257Wby range test

Impressive...it looks like Jerry has it working for him. Especially like the holes in those coyotes. Are those BT's or AB's? I shot one with a 115 CTBST...looks about the same.

    .257Wby range test

Boomer68, I know you are already aware of this, but each rifle is an individual, so with that said you will need to take my findings and use your own common sense on what your rifle/load tells you. With that said my load referenced above consists of the following: Winchester brand 7mm...

    .257Wby range test

Boomer 68 What were your velocities? The reason I ask is that I am using RL25 and the 110 Accubond, but I am at 74 grains of powder for 3,525 fps. Wondering if you still have some room to experiment.

    .257 weatherby load

Dubyam hit it right on the head. Given proven powders in a cartridge (which IMR 4831 and IMR 7828 are) a person then has to kind of extrapolate between knowns and unknowns and experiment a little bit. Better to start of on the low side of things (within reason) and work up. Velocity is a...
