When using the .30 carbine we try to hunt in thick cover and look for 25 to 75 yd shots
Same with the slugs
The bigger rifles of course are going to be used for longer range and we seem to kill them from 50 to 150 yds most of the time.
If a stand offers the possibility of a very long shot, we...
We got more than the number shown, we are hunting in Texas. Some Counties allow up to 5 deer, some not so many.
Most of what we (my group of 3) kill now is hunting various State WMA's and State Parks per a draw system and a standby draw system. The State issues special tags which do not count...
Some of the deer we killed in 2013

Another Nice doe taken, this one was using the M1 Garand and 150gr Ballistic tip Mexican Matched into HXP Ball ammo

These recovered bullets are from my "Treasures Box" at home. Wife thinks it's funny that I have a nice carved / lined wooden box to put my recovered bullets in. She just doesn't know how rare it is to get bullets back from the deer.
First up
We have three recovered 110 gr M1 Carbine bullets...
In the olden days we would use the Sierra target bullets on deer with our 30-06's and 300 win mag's. I can assure you the deer will no he has been shot! I fail to see why these target bullets would not do the same.
SPS is why my reloading stash is slowly but surely going Nosler. When Sierra first bullets and Nosler Accubond / Partition seconds are almost the same price, well I will go with the Nosler product.
For deer hunting with my 30-06 class of rifles any manufactuers bullet will slay the critter.
I got 5 boxes of the 64gr BSB just two minutes before they went Out of Stock!
Also got 1000 of the 155 over runs the other day! 4 boxes of 250.
Also got 3 eight LB jugs of AA-2520 ordered before Powder Valley ran dry!
Been a good month so far!
I have never shot a deer or hog with the Nosler .30 cal CC bullets. I have done so with Sierra MK. I uspect the CC would perform the same as the Match Kings and shoot any deer deader than dead. That said, I would prefer an actual game bullet for hunting, but if my Garand was filled with 155 or...
I have been into M1 Garand Shooting the last few years, and this has driven me to IMR-4064 @ 48.5 grs for use with the 165 to 168 gr bullets. Velocity is 2700 fps and the Accubond is very accurate and deadly on deer with these loads. My Garands love the polymer tip.
This load is a nice middle...
We were hunting in the Gus Engeling WMA, buck hunt and management hunt.
The gun in the first picture is a Kreighoff Drilling 12x12x30-06, I was using it as a single shot since buckshot are not allowed.
We had a wonderful hunt and the people at the wma are first class all the way.
Here is a...
6 of these seven deer were killed with 165 gr Accubonds out of a 30-06 charged with 48.5grs 4064, the other was killed with a WW 150 gr Power point on top of 49gr 4895.
Yes the Kreighoff Drilling is one sweet and versatile weapon. The 30-06 BBL is extremely accurate if only two shots are fired and then allowed to cool back to ambient temperature. I am talking 1" or less at 100 yds. Also the removable scope is fantastic as well, you can remove it, use it as a...

IMR 4064 @ 48.4 grs.

This year we killed 6...
My go to load for M1 Garands is as follows:
WW-Cases
CCI-200 LR Primers
IMR-4064 @ 48.5 grs
168gr HPBT or 155 HPBT (Both Nosler CC)
Velocity by chronograph
155 gr = 2800FPS
168gr = 2700FPS
Both bullets use the same powder charge and I let the rifle tell me what it likes best. Ejection...
