    Your first

I actually have none of my first 5 firearms. Chinese SKS, Universal M1Carb, Phoenix Arms HP22, Savage/Springfield 67 12ga, and a HiPoint 9mm. Only one I regret parting with... the SKS which paid $109 for 1993. Even so I traded it for nicely sporterized 98 in 300WM back when SKSs weren't given a...

    Bolt action handguns

Charlie, My old man had a XP100 in his later years in 221 fireball. I never had a chance to shoot it but always wanted to, or at least tinker around with some bolt handgun. After he passed, my brother and I along with my dad's best friend were sorting out all his guns and gear and was terribly...

    Thoughs on a Minox?

I have 4 Minox scopes and a pair of compact binos. I have a ZA5 2-10x40 on my M77 African in 375Ruger that sent the crosshairs cockeyed. A quick email response from Minox said to send it in and it will be taken care of... I haven't done so yet, though, but from what I've heard service is...

What can I do with these powders???

If you want a great utility powder, it's hard to beat 4895. It's a jack of all trades and is close to the master of a couple of em.

    I want a 7mm rem Mag.

Ahhh words to warm my soul! Fotis, I picked up my Shadow in excellent condition at Cabelas for 310 after beating em up on price a bit.The stock (new in box) ran me right at about a c-note on ebay and the bottom metal I think was a little less than that. Add on Talleys from ebay for $30...

    I want a 7mm rem Mag.

LOL... Well Fotis, just the way I think, I see several gaps in there including but not limited to a quarter bore, a 6.5mm, 7mm, 338... OK, kidding aside, I'm pretty fond of the larger bore stuff but for some reason I have quite a soft spot for the 284. Just my meager $.02, I'd ditch the...

    Chicago Firearms Registry closes???

I'd be suspicious of such a story... I didn't think Chicago was smart enough to figure something like that out!

    The caliber conundrum

I think you're probably making the right move. Given what you stated in the first post, viable options seemed to be tough to come up with. If options are tough, maybe you had the right thing in the first place

Talley LW's or 20 MOA base with Leupold PRW's

I can't speak too much on the Leupolds but I have several sets of the Talley lightweights. I love em. They are light, solid, and eliminate any concern of ring to base movement. I have em on a 300Roy, 257Roy, 7WSM, 7RemMag, and a 7-08. Needless to say, I'm a fan!

    excuses, excuses, excuses!

For us, powder is still fairly thin but improving. There is one local mom & pop that is notorious for always having high prices. His inventory got thinner but I don't recall seeing him 100% out... then again, I don't hit his shop as often as others because of his very proud pricing.

    Question on Primers

Holy smokes they were spendy... w/o factoring in hazmat fees! With em, 3k CCIs 200s or 300s or 400s or 500s would run a fella over $55 per after haz/mat and $3 per order handling fee.... and from what I was able to decipher on the site, they still haven't charged to be shipped yet! So I'd be...

    The magnum advantage: about 10%

I find it fascinating all the factors that go into play with ballistics... and altitude certainly is quite a factor. Just remember... all the factors that affect the 06 also affect the 300WM  Oddly, altitude is something I rarely factor in when I'm out shooting loads for hunting... and...

    .375 H&H 260gr Accubonds @200yds today

That is absolutely awesome! The only advice I can offer is don't shoot into a high wind at a water jug at 25 yards. Mind you, I did that with a 375Ruger running a 260gr PT, but I suspect you'd get the same result... a second or two of rain  That really is impressive, though... especially...

    Which powders would you choose?

Hmmm.... I know I'll have to have my 7828. BLC2, 4350 and probably RL15. The only one that would have me disappointed would be my 30-30... I really like Leverevolution and the 160FTX but I would be happy enough with BLC2 or RL15 in it. Kind of a tough question. I load for 13 rifle cartridges...

    240Wby

Based on what I'm seeing in Nosler, I'd be looking at RL22, Magnum and 7828. I don't have or load for the 240Roy, but I've found 7828 to be exceptional for my 300Roy and does quite well in my 257Roy. Velocity is usually not a concern and accuracy runs from good to great. YMMV, of course.

Yep^^^^ Go with the Talleys made for the Vanguard.

    The magnum advantage: about 10%

Well put at the end there, Lou. Doesn't matter what you shoot, but practice and shoot it well. Once shooting well, I then refer to the philosophy I use... I'd rather have and not need than need and not have.

    The magnum advantage: about 10%

Gerry, your post got me to thinking as it reminded of a lesson in optics drilled into my head by some members here, just over on another forum. Essentially its a cost-benefit relationship and the point of diminishing returns.... and it seems to relate here. In optics, as the quality of glass...
