Would some one please tell me the difference between the 140 and 150gn BTs, other than ten grains. In my limited experience it seems to be a bit tougher or have a thicker jacket. Anyones experiences at 7x57 and 280 speeds are appreciated. Thanks, capt david
It is my understanding that one of the 'Noslers' likes the 150BT for use in his 280. I'm just curious as to why? FWIW, it's my favorite in the 280 also. thanks for the info, capt david
Would someone explain how the CT Ballistic Silvertip 168gn 308 fits between the new 168 BT and the old 165BT? Its my understanding that it is little more than a lubaloy coated 165BT. Am I correct? capt david
It is my understanding that, not too long ago, all the heavier caliber Balistic Tips plus the 180gn 308 were 'toughened.' The jacket is now made thicker toward the base. Have I got this right? I now notice that Nosler is making a 168gn 308BT. Is this heavier, toward the base, also? If so, will...
Just for my curiosity. I would like to know the weight bullet that sells the best;
7mm PT, BT and AB
308 PT, BT and AB
257 PT BT and AB
Thanks in advance, capt david
will a200gn 8mm Partition open at 2000fps impact velocity on smallish deer? I friend uses an 8x57 and shoots them at around 2400mv for pigs and would like to use them on deer also. Max range is about 150yds. capt david
Please, do not take this as a put down. But, what possible difference, in the field, will one ever notice on a 150-350kg animal? remember a gun that shoots 1moa groups is only 1.5" from POA at 300yds. My whitworth Mauser likes Varget. capt david
JD338, I have heard this also about trhe jacket thickness.It is the 'urban legend' that I've talked about. I wish Nosler would chip in and tell us. thanks again, capt david
I see many like the 120gn 7mm BT for deer in the 7-08 and even some in the 7mags. Nosler even makes it their only load for the 7-08. This bullet seems to me to be light for caliber. It's SD is only 216 and I have always prefered one with at least close to 250. I have heard that it is made with a...
I also have a commercial FN 7x57. This load 'kinda' splits the difference between what you asked about. I shoot 47.5gn H4350 and the 150gn Partition @ 2700fps. It shoots about an inch, sometimes a little more, most times a little less. (all caveats apply seems to be safe in my 98) I've loaded...
I shoot a Mark X Whitworth Mauser 24" barrel. It shoots sub inch groups with 150 Power Points and 165 SSTs (sorry nosler) It shoots 165 Partitions about 1.25" and 165BTs at 1.75. I used Varget 46.5 with the 150 and 45.5 with tthe 165s . capt david
That was an amazing shot. The way I figgure it the bullet was going around 1700fps and had about 800flbs energy. You had to aim about 4-4.5 feet high. At that speed and energy I'm not sure that it had the "umpf" to do much more. capt david :grin: :grin: :grin:
I shot two pigs with it out of a 308. My muzzle velocity was 2500fps. The accuracy was acceptable, 3 shot groups between 1.5" and 2" at 100yd but not as good as this gun shoots. The distance that I shot the pigs was around 100yds, maybe a little less. I found them to be pretty explosive at...
I have a 7x57 FN commercial made in '52. It is long throated and prefers 150PTs. Using h4350 I've gotten over 2800fps, but came down to 2700 because if I needed more I've got a 280. It shoots the Partitions right around an inch. As far as I'm concerned it is the perfect pig/deer cartridge at...
