I am going to try to load the 165 Accubonds for my 30-06. I know some bullets like the Partition like a little bit of jump to the lands and others do not. For those that hand load the accubonds, how far do you typically seat them from the lands?
On a wide variety of cartridges, I allow a jump of 0.100 inches for the initial assessment. In almost every instance, I'll be quite near this jump when I find my load.
In the many years I've loaded for rifles, I've always either followed the manuals exactly or relied upon ".015 to .020 off the lands." I'm questioning that now and not because I'm using monometal bullets. Once the ranges get fully re-opened, I'm going to work up loads by first using a safe charge under OALs from kissing the lands to .150" back. THEN, I'm going to work with powders and charges, e.g., OCW ladders.
