180gr Accubond in 300wm

"Just for kicks I tried some H4831 and shot 3 into the same hole ..."

After reading this comment here is my thought that echos a few in this thread. I use 225 NABs for my 338winmag. I could not get consistency till I tried the H4831sc. Constant consistent "you can bank on it" groups are 3/4" or often less at 200 yards if I do my part. Chrony shows rounds stays within 18 fps deviation or less and velocity is around 2785 ish. Not a screaming fast round but as JD338 says, "accuracy kills".

P.S. I am using H4831sc for my 7mm Rem Mag and a fellow hunter's Kimber 300 Win Mag. I will keep ya'll posted how that powder does with those rifles.

I've only used H1000 with a 200gr AB. 76.0gr and playing with seating depth gives 0.75 in (3 shot 100 yd group). Sounds like I need to try the 4831sc. My .270 win has always liked the IMR4831.

My buddy is shooting a very large dose of H1000 with a 180 AB in his .300 WIn, Mag. at 3096fps out of a 26" barrel and is getting extremely good accuracy out of his model 700. You may give it a try. I thought it would be too slow of a burning powder for that bullet weight and barrel length but apparently it's not hurting his accuracy and that velocity is screaming!

Have not experienced that in quite few 300s over the years.

Pet load is usually 74-75g RL22 with a 180g NBT in our 300s and is usually good for right at 3000fps.

Anymore though, we"ve switched to the 200g AB since we shoot little longer distances then some and that is a dandy LR game bullet. Also doubles up better incase you bust an elk or bear up close out of the brush compared to the 180 NBTs. Make no mistake though, we've killed pile of elk with the 180 NBT from 300 mag, most of em were always 200 yards on out so it works just fine for that.

I worked up a load for my uncles rem 700 BDL S/S and the 200g AB last year with 71.5g RL22 which was good for .3s and .4s at 100 yards, 2875fps, and later killed his spike with it at 900 yards after I took it out to jakes all way to 1000 and did all the drop chart work for his 3.5-10x leupold with target knob.

I don't own a 300 Win Mag and never loaded for one either. But I will pass along a friend in Colorado that owns one. He is using 180 Partitions and IMR4831 Powder with CCI250 Primers.
He gets good velocity in the 3100 fps range with great accuracy. That load will flatten Elk. Hunted with him several years he shot nice Bulls at 300-400 yds. I know as I helped pack them out!!

Just really hard to beat the 300 mags with a good 180.. Hard to improve upon most of the time.

You couldn't go wrong with any 300 Mag.today. There is only a difference of 100-200 fps between them if comparing 180 bullets and apples to apples. Just takes more powder/fuel to get there.

This is what I expect from my 300 Win with 75 gr RL-22 from a good 100 yard bench rest! This load chronographed at 3025 fps at 65 degrees F. Just a fully bedded Model 700 Remington. I sure wish they would make the Reloader powders temperature in-sensitive.

That is some fine shooting, OldMan. It gives comfort to the rifleman.

OldMan,
Now that's the way it's done. Great job shooting. That's a great load you have there.

SoDak, that is the same load that I used in my .300 WSM (67.0 gr-IMR4350) with 180 gr Partitions and I got the same velocity from a 24 inch barrel (2950) and accuracy way under MOA at 300 yards.

"The final load was 67.0 H4350, WW cases, Fed 215 match"...That's pretty impressive, as I load 72 gr of that powder w/ 180 grain NPs and ABs and get right at 3,000 fps (24" barrel). My experience w/ this cartridge and having used a couple chronographs to clock 300 Win Mag loads says this is pretty optimistic.

I was finally able to work up a load for the AB in a 300wm. The final load was 67.0 H4350, WW cases, Fed 215 match. All 3 shot groups were 0.75in to 0.9in at 100yds. Velocities averaged 2952fps out of a 26in barrel.

Every time I tried to push the AB faster (with RL-22 or any other powder) my groups opened up to 1.25in to 1.5in. Has anyone else experienced this?
