How about a 2011 Hunting Picture:

Sorry for the low quality after dark camera phone picture... Called in my first bobcat Saturday evening at around 4:30 pm. The cat showed up at about 125 yards in front of me after 7 minutes of playing "Lightning Jack" on the FoxPro FX5 (The first 2 minutes were muted). I was sitting about 3/4 of the way up a small hill with the call set about 20 yards in front and to the left of me on a fence post and I was watching where a couple small draws came together in medium grassy cover to my front. I noticed something gray with my eye that I hadn't noticed before, even though I'd only been set up for a short time. I wasn't sure if it was just a clump of greyish colored weeds or possibly a coyote. When I put the binocs up I instantly saw the spots and his face and new this was no coyote. He was sitting on his butt looking right toward me and the call. I slowly lifted the Encore 7mm08 rifle to my shoulder but quickly put the crosshair on his chest and pulled the trigger. I think I might have had a quick thought like "I sure hope I don't miss. As I pulled the trigger, I heard the 140 Barnes TTSX (wife's elk load-sorry Nosler) connect and in the semi-light recoil, saw the bobcat tip over on his left side. My buddy, Josh, was sitting 15 feet to my right with his shotgun loaded with Hornady 00 buckshot (we really do like Nosler bullets and use them for big game  ) He said "What did you shoot?" I said "a bobcat and it's dead!" He looked at me like I was crazy in disbelief, because we were really expecting a coyote to show up. As normal for me, I don't get to excited before or at the time of the shot but I do afterwords. I told him I couldn't wait until dark so we went to take a look. The bullet entered the middle of his chest and exited out his back. It was instant death but there really was not much damage or blood. Just one small spot on the ground where he laid. The blood ran out from carrying it out over my shoulder (time to do some laundry). I was so excited about this cat and just how pretty it was! I honestly don't think I was even this stoked about killing my first deer...maybe close on my biggest buck, but certainly no other deer or hog, and there's been a few. The bobcat weighs 36 lbs best I can tell and has already been sealed. Time to call the taxidermist and decide what to do with it. This was truly a memory I'll never forget, almost unbelievable!

yote,

Nice cat, congratulations!
What kind of mount are you thinking of? I always liked the cat leaping up at a grouse.

Great shooting and that is one big cat! You did well! Can't wait to see the mount! Scotty

Nice shooting. That is a fine looing cat. I have always wanted to shoot one, trapped a bunch in college, but never shot one. Sounds fun! They look great on the wall. Get a good taxidemist. A pelt hanging on the wall looks good and is cheap, but a full body is truely something that is a joy to see.

The pictures just posted show a very handsome cat. He'll make an excellent mount.

yotesmoker,

thats a big cat by south texas standards. Most of ours only top about 20 lbs.

I had a bobcat done up like a bear skin rug. The head was hard mounted and the hide was backed with some heavy velvet material. Looks good hanging on the wall.

WOW! Look at the size of that rascal.
Good job.

I'd have to do a full body mount and have the cat leaping toward a flushing grouse....

My first bobcat was about that size.He was chasing a fawn when I killed him.....
Should've had it mounted but didn't.Bleached the skull and had it for years but lost it in a move :(

Nice cat. It's got excellent pattern and coloration to it. The bigger cats I've seen tend to fade with age. It's going to look great as a mount.
Congrats for sure. I'd love to see the mount.

Right on, good shot and a good cat. So the tsx did very little damage? I had always figured that a mono metal bullet wuold be thru and thru with the lite body structure of varmints, but my .243 groups the v-max's so well I never considered trying them.

Thank you all for the compliments. It sure is a nice looking cat! It is at the taxidermist now who cased it out and then will go to the tannery for 120 days. In the meantime, I need to pick out a mount. A couple taxidermists we have talked to have told us that the standing/bird attack looks cool but that they we'll get bored with it after a bit and they are also hard to move with. McKenzie probably has the most bobcat forms available and I'm thinking of going with a wall mounted tree limb with the cat laying out where you can still see some belly hair. Haven't found the perfect look yet, but it gives me something to do for a while now. I am deploying in April for 6 months so I will be looking forward to getting this mount back in the fall, just in time for elk/deer season!

As far as bullet damage with the big game suited TTSX, the picture of the cat's back is where the bullet exited and it left a very tiny hole where it was center punched in the chest. I have absolutely no reservation to use this same combo again on bobcat and coyote. Altough there are better suited varmint rifles in the locker. It just so happened that my 22 hornet was all that was sighted in last week and I felt confident the 7mm08 would do the job on longer range predators. Guess the Hornet would have been an ok choice too but just goes to show you never know where animals will pop up.

I'm heading to the range here in a bit to get the 22-250 and 204 dialed in to hunt with next week.

Need to get off here and get some test loads going for the 25-06 as well, just to see what it likes to eat for now.

Randy,

I am sure you will end up with the perfect mount. Post some pictures when you get your mount back.
That sure is a beautiful cat!
