Happy new year to you all.

I decided to do a quick end of year hunt on a property that held fallow and sambar deer. We didn’t see any sambar but there were a few fallow getting around. I shot one facing me with the RUM. The bullet entered the chest and was found on the inside of the rear ham breaking the leg. The shot was made at 80 yards or so and would have hit at over 3,000fps going end to end. Retained bullet weight was 141 grains or circa 70%. Suffice to say there was no suffering on the animals behalf but the ground was bruised from how hard it hit it 😉

Congratulations on your fallow deer.
Were you using the 300 RUM 200 gr AB?

Sure was. It is such an accurate bullet in that cartridge for me. I am really starting to enjoy the 300RUM, it is quite a tack driver.

Big fan of the AccuBond, I need to go someplace and find a Fallow deer to shoot.
The 300 Win - 300 RUM with a 200 AB has been something pretty serious for elk in our group. Always accurate as well and recovered bullets always look excellent from up close to 620 yards so far. I use other stuff now and again but that bullet is a killer.

Run them exclusively in my 338 Jarrett for quite a long time. 250grains at 2950 tends to get an elks attention, if only for a brief time. 30 to 501 yards, at least 20 times it’s been one and done. Think I’ve recovered only two bullets.
I’m planning on taking the 300HH to Africa this spring with 180 Accubonds. I bet they work as well.
Just yesterday I was playing with 140 and 150s in my 275 Rigby. Hit 2990 with a 140 and 2950 with a 150. Both were accurate enough to warrant further consideration but backing off a little to 2950 and 2920 respectively look even better accuracy wise and I don’t think any thing I might hunt with a 140 or 150 Accubonds is going to notice the slightly lower velocity.
Another note on those AccuBond velocity. I was using RL 17 again and it was relatively cold at 29 degrees.

For sure. That 250 AB touches down with some serious juice.

I was just contemplating a 265 Nosler around 2700 might be nearly possible in my 338 Win. Running the numbers it’s fairly impressive. Might make it a 338 year this year. Been awhile since I’ve taken the old Alaskan on the hill.

You need a 338 RUM buddy. 😉
