2012 Hunting Pictures

The kitties are breeding now, so I really need to be past this flu so I can go shoot a couple.

Well, it was a tough season, in some ways, but a fun one. Short version is, saw a ton of deer, got very few shot opportunities. Had a bobcat get within 10' of me and a first-time hunter I had with me before he came around a rock outcrop and stopped to stare in amazement at the two people sitting on his ledge. That was a tense 10-15sec, wondering if I was going to have to go hand-to-hand with him. I think I'd have won, but I'd surely have paid dearly for the win.

I got a pretty blonde coyote a few days later:

Saw some nice bucks. Me and a buddy both put a bullet through this one, when the big one, the small one, and 6-7 does bounded up out of the tall grass while we were en route to our stands for the afternoon. Hunting buddy who put the second hole in the 6pt I'm holding insisted I take credit, while he took the picture:

Then yesterday, on the last day of the season, I bumped this 7pt up off of his bed and put him on the ground around 640a. Suffice it to say a 180gr E-Tip took out 4 ribs going in, blew both lungs, and took out 5 ribs going out. My tracking job was to walk to where he was standing, because that's where he fell:

Late yesterday afternoon, literally at 5min until the end of deer season, I was also able to harvest a doe. No pics, as it was dark and I didn't have a flash camera with me. Just imagine a 1.5yr old doe about 110lbs and you'll have it. All in all a hard but great season, with several other nice bucks taken off our club lease.

That sounds reasonably successful, dubyam. To be able to get out, and especially to share time with good friends, is one of God's rich pleasures in life.

Here are my 2012 pictures..

First up was a doe with my daughter and a muzzleloader.

Not the best year for horns, but I did stock the freezer with some decent chow and introduced a few folks to our sport, which makes it one of the better season's on the books.

Good stuff, Scotty! I like the pics with the kids. That last one with the two kids walking down the easement reminds me of so many places I hunted growing up. Lots of box blinds on power and gas line easements with shots from 5-500yds. Man, I miss hunting season already!

Same here Dub, I was just driving home and wondered what I will do tomorrow! I have a long time till Elk season again!

The only part I don't like about our club, is it is a shotgun only county. It would be awesome 45-70 country, but slugs are the lemon's, so we make lemonade!

Looks like you made several pitchers full, my friend. Bring that 45-70 over to north Alabama in 11mo and we'll put it to use!

Dub and Scotty,

Nice work fellas!

Great harvest of whitetails, Scotty. Those are great pictures with the children.

Thanks Mike. It was a great season. Lots of new hunters and good family time. Hope it continues in the future.

Awesome stuff Scotty!

I am sure Dylan is hooked for life now! I can't wait to get my oldest out next year where I actually get to hunt.

There is some awfully good eating for sure.

Welcome aboard. Good looking porker. That is an excellent rifle for hogs.

Lots of great pics and hunts in here. Way to much reading for a fella with BiFocals.. 8)

Congrats to you SJB358 for getting the young people out and introducing them into our sport, It looks like they had fun and will carry on our tradition... (y)

7mmJoe , thats a nice pig you got there... (y) , We have them up here, mostly which have escaped from the high fence farms, but i have never shot one. I have seen them but only momentarily.

2012...Moose

I was lucky to draw a tag in 2012, for my home zone of 42W eventhough i was after a Bull Tag i managed to get a Cow Tag. I guess i won't squeal to loud as it is meat in the freezer.
Not much to tell about the hunt; The weather was crap and work kept getting in the way of hunting. I hunted hard everyday i was off but things weren't going in my favor. It was already nearing the end of the season when i ran across 2 sets of tracks on land that belonged to my hunting partners parents. I started following alongside the tracks and both him and i saw the Cow and Bull in the bush but they were on the move. I got over there ASAP, and they were standing in a slough bottom. One shot to the neck with the 338WM and it was Game Over.....Then the work started......Not a huge cow but some Good Eating.
