After 6 days in the mountains of southern West Virginia hunting black bear on foot, I scored on a female black bear that weighed 250 lbs dressed out. One of the toughest animals I've ever encountered, she took a 180 grain PT from a 300 Win Mag through the heart (literally) and still made it a half a mile. Granted, it was straight downhill. She was perched on a log when I arrived and attempted to come at me so I hit her again from 15 yards through the chest. She then tried to run up the side of the mountain so I hit her a third time between the shoulder blades exiting center of the chest. That did the trick. Bullet performance was excellent. All exited doing massive trauma. The top of the heart was destroyed by the first bullet. The second nicked the side of it and the third passed through the center. Thanks Nosler!
