Well, since it's almost here, let's hear what hunts people are planning for 2017. I will still be focusing mostly on my daughters for deer season. The oldest will be transferring to Eastern Wa University in the fall so I will have to do some research on some new deer hunting areas.

Elk will most likely be with the muzzleloader in Western Washington.

I'd like to go back to Northern Idaho for spring bear again, always a fun hunt.

My hunting partner would like to head back over to Montana again on a deer hunt so we will have to see if that is in the cards for us.

Lastly, if I can make it happen, take the girls home to Wisconsin over Thanksgiving to see Dad and hopefully get some Whitetail hunting in.

All that I will be doing this year is arranging for and taking my granddaughter and my daughter on my granddaughters Elk, Deer, and Mountain Lion hunt. And even then I will only be the camp cook and bottle washer, as I just can not do those mountains any more, but I am still looking forward to it

Undoubtedly, I'll be taking others out into the mountains again this year. I will have tags for moose, elk, black bear, mule deer and whitetail. Perhaps I'll pick up a tag for lynx (I may do that this next month since prime hunting is in Jan/Feb). Of course, I'm always permitted to take wolves and coyotes. Unfortunately, my wife has plans that will preclude much of my early season. Not the end of the world, but quite close.

I've got a Elk Mule deer combo booked for Montana. Wanted to go to Wyoming but my mobile living quarters was damaged by the weather last winter and didn't find it till I uncovered it this spring and it might be totaled.

Trust you are able to make that elk/mule deer hunt this coming fall, Rodger. It will be a great experience you will not soon forget; of that I am certain. (y)

Will be starting out 2017 with winter coyote hunting, cougar tag in my pocket... Probably just shooting coyotes again though!

And will be out after upland game again as well, pheasant & chukar.

Next fall? Who knows? Haven't decided yet. Unlikely to draw another good Washington elk or deer tag, and am not planning a trip to Wyoming for antelope & mule deer in 2017. Well, not yet anyway...

I've got my usual hunts for bears, caribou and moose upcoming. I'm hoping to draw an archery moose tag this year as well.

I have a friend who's invited me to Montana for a mule deer and pheasant hunt and I'm hoping to make another pilgrimage to TN for whitetails.

Most of my hunts in Africa and Europe are spur of the moment hunts or invited hunts. However, this year I hope to go back to Argentina and visit my parents. Mum wants to hunt a "basket" of sheep and goats ( mouflon, black jacob, multi horned, wild, and a patagonian ram and dall). She tells me it will be fun, but we will see. I will definitely go dove hunting with dad while there. Dad is a little easier for me to hunt with as he is just a down to earth cowboy at heart. Mum hunts like Sherman went through Georgia, by the end of each hunt with her I am exhausted.

Best Regards

Jamila

My wife and I try to go on one Elk hunt each year with friends in Montana and at this stage of our life, if that happens, it is the only major hunt we can squeeze in each year.

I just bought my Alaska license and moose tag last night before the prices doubled for 2017. I'm sure I'll have at least 2 elk tags in ID again and maybe 3 if I draw a extra cow tag. If I can swing it I'm going to try for 2 deer tags too. I'm not sure I'll have the time though. AK will most likely be my only out of state hunt this year though.

This year We'll get the Sportpack license, covers upland birds and waterfowl, turkey, bear, cougar, deer and elk.
I will need to apply for spring bear, deer and elk.
Point saver on Antelope again as I'll still be in Alaska when that season opens.
We are pursuing the additional tags, doe tags, we can apply for as well. These will be late season hunts on private property. I'm working on the access question now.
I'll be guiding pheasant hunts until the end of March, start back up on that in mid September.

Well....I may add one more to the list. My buddy wants to head to Eastern Washington or Northern Idaho this spring looking for turkeys. I have only hunted them once, several years ago. I know my friends back in Wisconsin really love their turkeys, so I may have to give it a shot. Hopefully only one shot:)

I'm lucky for 2017,

Doing a combo elk & mule deer hunt on the western side of Colorado for the 2nd rifle season. Elk is over the counter and we will draw for mule deer. Probably won't draw but, it is a private ranch so there might be vouchers. Really looking forward to this hunt as it will be the first time in 11 years since I've hunted elk. One of my best friends from childhood will be there and is the person that accompanied me on my other elk hunts. Neither of us can hike the mountains like we used too but, we are going to give it hell nonetheless.

Also putting together a 4-day whitetail hunt on south side of the Texas Hill Country. It's still a little east of the Trans-Pecos area so no mulies. Not quite desert but the trees are giving way to cactus. Like 99% of Texas it's private land. We are trying to hit the rut and will have 5 or 6 close friends there. We'll hunt all morning, rest for lunch and then hit the afternoon hard. Some stalking, safari and blind hunting. Can't even begin to estimate the lies, stretches-of-the-truth and B.S. that will be had around the campfire on this one.

Scattered around those two exceptional hunts I'll be up in Oklahoma during weekends bow hunting and perhaps my usual trip or two to the pan handle for whitetail & hog.

Really excited about the rifles going to be in the line up. A certain .340 wby will finally have the opportunity to do something worthy of it's caliber when it gets to Colorado. I've also had an old custom that was my dad's turned into what it was suppose to be; a 7x57. All I have to do is get a load ready and that bad boy will be ready for whitetails.

Really looking for this upcoming season!

Why, I thought they only made one bullet for the 7x57????? 140 grain AccuBond :>)

I have a No 1 that really likes the 160 AB, it shoots the 140 pretty well too.

Yep, that 160 would be the go to bullet for elk. This rifle is going to be strictly for deer and the size deer this rifle would likely meet would be maxed out around 170 lbs.

Hopefully a cow tag in Wyoming, and a bull tag in Oregon. I am playing around with the idea of applying for an early season elk hunt here in Washington, I have a number of preference points. We are flying south for the winter soon, and I will tie in my morning hikes with a coyote call and a rifle.

I've been packing my 6.5 when I take the dogs for a run. They run I walk. Been seeing lots of song dog tracks. Did take a couple of 1000 yard shots yesterday.
No idea if I even got close as I haven't done more than mount the scope and establish a 100 yard zero.
To dang cold to get serious about range work.
