Okay with all the talk on another thread about the A-Max I think I will try some in my 300WM,
I have H1000, RE25, Retumbo, VVN165 and H4831SC to play with.
Can Someone do a Quickload for me with those powders.

Thanks
Randy

Randy,

Note that these projections are with Norma brass, which gives significantly different pressure curves from calculations with Winchester and/or Remington in the 300WM.

I'll be using Winchester brass, It'll be a bit as all my brass is loaded so I need to get out and empty some.
Thanks again

Randy, if you give Mike the case load in grains of water, it really seems to tune his data in even better.. It has really been very close for me when done like that for me.

Man, that 208 AMAX would be a fun one at around 2950! Holy smokes.. Might have to try them out in the little 300WSM. I have the mag room to seat them out. Might make a good steel load for sure, or a NV woodchuck load!

You can generate the data for actual case capacity. Deoxygenate water (draw it and let it set in an uncapped container overnight), tare a fired case, now add water with a pipette. The weight of the water at STP yields case volume.

A 208 Amax at 2900+ will clobber the schitt out of anything it touches for about a half-mile or more.... I know from experience. I've only seen one of those bullets recovered, that was out of a 300lb+ black bear shot at 600+ yards. The bear was down instantly, the bullet was in the off side hide and weighed about 120grs.... looked just like every ballistic tip I've ever seen pulled out of a carcass.

The only things on this planet I'd not point that load at.... could bite me in half, or stomp me into raspberry jelly.

What does STP stand for?
Thanks for the info. I've had this Remington 700CDL in 300WM for about 8 years and I only found one load that would shoot under an inch consistently.
Hornady 180SP InterLock/70gr H4350 and believe me when I say I've tried a lot of different combos, but not the 208 A-Max or Berger 210 H-VLD.
I've had it pillar/glass bedded, played with floating the barrel and pressure points, cut back 1" and new crown when I had a muzzle brake installed.
If i wasn't a professional bum at this moment I would have the guy that built my 6.5 Creedmoor put on a new barrel.

Songdog. If you don't mind me asking , what caliber you shooting the 208 A-Max in?

STP is standard temperature and pressure. In short, it assumes a temperature of 60 F and an absolute pressure of 1 atmosphere. This has changed in the laboratory today to 0 C and 1 bar. For all practical purposes, assume room temperature at or near sea level to permit you to measure case volume through use of deoxygenated water. In the real world, it is not likely that living at higher altitudes will change the outcome much. Ergo, I simply permit the water to bleed off excess oxygen and come to room temperature before measuring.

Most of the carnage I saw was via the .300 RUM..... but one deer with a .300 WSM (same velocities as Winny) was shot at about 35 yards..... he bounce, and the bullet exited leaving about a 2" hole.

SD, what was your load for the WSM? Speed?
