.224 64 gr BSB

Sounds good. I'll have to look at QL and see what powders can get us there for the PSIs were looking for.

Very interested if I can see good accuracy as well.

I started a thread in the reloading section on what powders could get us close. I believe that 2950 was all that quick load said that we could get. The hodgdon website suggests that cfe 223 can come really close to 3000 fps with the 63 grain sierra. They also run 24 grains of varget and that same bullet all the way up to 2950.

Keep me in the loop. Pretty interested in how it works.

How long is the 64BSB compared to a 50 or 55 BT?

Scotty,

The 64 gr BST is roughly the same length as the 50 gr BT.

Penetrating "a number" of jugs is one thing of course and comparing that number of jugs with how many another calibre penetrates is interesting.

But 5 jugs with a .224 and 5 jugs with a .277 or .338 bullet are different things all together.

Penetration is nice, but the size of the hole on the way in and out, and the inertia of the bullet to smash bone are other things completely. Bigger, heavier bullets do it better.

I did shoot the 222 with the 64 grainer today. Groups with 748 ran between 13 inches and 2.5 inches. My one group with 24 grains of varget put 4 into 1.25 inches with the best 3 into .8. Take those results as you may. I do plan to try h335 and maybe some aa 2520. Any idea how aa2520 or aa2015 br models out in quick load.

It is obvious that the bulletin board was inoperative yesterday. I would post, and get an error message. Fascinating that it was actually posting. Lots of problems on the board yesterday and early this morning.

Thanks for posting the target pic up for me. The above group was shot with 24 grains of varget which hodgdon says is okay with a 63 grain sierra. The total group size is about an inch and a quarter. While not great by 222 standards I feel that it is sufficient to reach the 200 yards that I can believe that the 222 is good for.

Next up I want to try imr 3031,h335, and aa2520,and maybe cfe 223 if I can find some.

I love these bullets. They didn't look too good in the 22-250 so I decided that they'd be dedicated to my AR. My ballistic app on my phone is having fits so I couldn't get a screen capture of measured group size, but the box is 1"x1" for comparison. Target was at 100 yards.

I hit a small P dog from 235 yards with one of these bullets and it ripped it in half.

It looks as if Nosler has a winner in this bullet; and it looks as if you found a decent load for your AR. Congratulations! I'd guess that load would be very destructive on Prairie Dogs.

Here are a couple pics from my testing of the 64 gr. BSB in my Rem. 700 22-250. Im averaging 3486 fps with well under an inch accuracy. Ive posted about it in the reloading section but thought I would add to this thread as well. I am really impressed with this bullet!

The bullet looks to be quite good, but the shooter is doing what should be done, I'd suggest. Good job.

Wyo7200,

What primer did you use?

The Rem 7 1/2 gave me best results with the CFE223.

WSR was erratic and CCI450 too hot.

They say cci 400's shouldn't be used in AR's- however that's what I had when I made the load. I haven't had any problems with them slam firing, but the firing pin does leave a fairly larger indent than what I've seen on 7 1/2's.

Remington has certainly performed really well in my other loads that I have done. When these get shot up I'll have to try the 7 1/2's and see if it can get smaller. :)
