Decided to try some 225 TTSX in the 340 to see what happens. Granted this only 100 yards but the rifle seems to like the 225 ttsx. The barrel was clean, lightly oiled and cold. I've never had a rifle put the first 3 shots down a clean cold barrel so close together, usually takes a fouling shot or two then they group.

Barnes has always shot very accurate for me. I'm going to check speed tomorrow.

That looks like a fine load for that rifle, Bill. I do believe it will work for most any game you might hunt.

Great group! I have always had great luck with the 225 TTSX in my 338 WM. The only problem I had with them is I couldn't decide weather to clean my barrel to take it to the local scrap yard and get the scrap value for the copper. LOL

LOL!!!!!!

Great shooting Bill. Hard to part with a rifle that shoots like that.

That is a hammer of a load for sure.. It looks pretty good in QL as well Bill. It says it is a bit over 65K but QL doesn't regulate well for WBY's freebore at all.

You would certainly think so but not for me. My 8mm shot just as well with Barnes TSX and I sold it. :? Barnes runs 87.5 RL-22 with the 250 so 89.0 or so with a 225 should be max depending on the rifle. I'm going out this morning to get chrono readings and shoot at 200 yards.

Right now I'm leaning towards the 86.5 load because it shot a little tighter than the 88.0 and it would be easier on the brass.

Bill

Without a doubt Bill. Looks like that 88 grain load would be tuneable a little too, so you have some options there. It is those kinda groups that make me smile.. Builds alot of confidence. Plus, that 340 is some awesome cartridge. Although I love the 338 Win Mag, the 340 runs 225's a touch faster than I can run 210's.. Just an incredible elk rifle.

Oh, Bill, can you smash one of them bullets into the jugs for us bullet heads?

Velocity ran 2920 ave for 3 shots with 86.5 RL22. 3 shot triangle group from a cold, clean, lightly oiled barrel at 200 yards. Made scope adjustment and shot the next 3 shot group, picture is up side down as it still needs 1 click down and 1 click right to be center at 200.

I'm quite sure I could get a little more velocity with the 88 grain load, (did not chrono it), but 2920 is plenty for me as the accuracy and brass life is good.

I'm happy enough with 1.25 give or take slightly groups at 200 yards and the elk will never know. For me the important thing is that the shot placement repeatable, and it is.

Very nice Bill, that is a HAMMER of a load right there buddy. Man, you can't complain with that, at all! Great shooting buddy. That was some quick load work right there.

Man, now your already for elk season, what do you do for the rest of the year?

I'm happy Scotty as it will do every thing I need done at the ranges I'm willing to shoot and even if things are not 100 % perfect at the time. Worked up a load in my friends 300 Wby with 168 TSX, ended up 9 shots fired to land on a .631 (if memory serves me correctly) group at 100 yards. TSX or TTSX has always shot very well for me in several calibers.

Now that the pressure is off for finding an elk hunting load that I am happy to hunt with I'm sure I'll run some 250 grain bullets. I recently found and bought some 250 Hornady spire points which from limited testing the rifle really liked. Other than that it's honey do's for me buddy.

I guess you'll have some time to stretch it out some and see what it does out long and get the Z800 stretched out and verified.
