I was laying in bed, unable to sleep, and I started thinking about different cartridge 'families', i.e. .308 (.243, .260, 7-08, .338-08, .358), .30-06 (.25-06, .270, .280, .338-06, .35 Whelen, and the x57s (9mm, 8mm, 7mm, 6.5, 6mm Rem and the Bob) and the various wildcats off of them... .400 and .375 Whelen, 8mm-06, 6.5-06, 6-06. I noticed acouple of holes in the .308s lineup, namely .25 (or .257) and .270. I know at some point, a herd of people must have dreamed something up (and I seem to recall an article on the .270 Redding, which I think is a .270-08).

So here's the point of this windy diatribe: how will a .25-08, no changes other than neck diameter, compare to a standard +P Bob, or a Bob AI? I don't have pressure limits right in front of me, and wouldn't really know where to look them up. I guess this might be a QL request, POP?

Have had one for years. I use 243 brass and neck it up. I use a 120gr bullet. Very good for deer.Rick.

I've had a 2508 AI for a few years in an encore pistol and with 85 gr bt's for varmints and 100 gr bt's for deer and hogs and they both work well.
Rick Smith, what is your favorite powder for it?

As far as 25 cal's go, from the 250 Savage on up they are real deer killers.

Might be easier than a 250 Ackley Imp. Thats a great looking round. Savage should cghamber that in a rifle. It would out do any 243. dont know where the souper falls. But if you want a real show stopper neck a 270WSM down to .25. That will give a 257 Wby a run for its money in a short action.....sleeples nights get me into more trouble...CL

hookeetonkin, I use two different powders, 43.0grs IMR-4350 and 40.5grs of RL-15. The 4350 load is more accurate and I use it for hunting. Still playing with the RL-15. It is about 200fps faster than the 4350 but haven't nailed down equal accuracy.Rick.

Thanks Rick, when I started reloading for mine the only powder info I could find for it was for IMR 4320 and it worked well enough that I never botherwd to try anything else but you know us goofy reloaders can never leave well enough alone . I just might have to try the 4350

I think the origional qestion was how does the souper compare with the Roberts or the roberts AI.
I think to best answer is to look at the other rounds built on the 2 cases.
For exaple the 7mm08 and the 7X57 mauser. The mauser has a little more powder space, and you can boost the speed up a little faster than with the 7mm08. And as you go up in bullet weight, as always the bigger case advantage becomes more of na boost..
And the same can be said for the .243Win and the 6mm REM.
for a hunter there would not be much difference in on game performence.
When you go to an AI, you add some ware beetween 50, and 100 fps to the small advantage the mauser case has over the .308 case.
I would say , the Roberts is great, but if you want to go with a wildcat,
get the souper. Got to be a great round.
I would want it on say a model 7 with a 22 inch tube. Or a short action RL ruger.
