I have a 25-284 and many different weights and brands of bullets and several slow powders that I inherited. Rather than bugging everyone for quickload data for each bullet, can I use 25-06 data
as some have suggested to use up these components for paper practice?

The primary concerns that I would register are that the ,25-284 has a lower maximum allowable pressure than the 25-06, and a slightly smaller case capacity. Consequently, the maximum charge for the 25-06 when using a 120 PT and H4350 would yield a 10% over-maximum pressure in the .25-284. Potentially, you could get in trouble quite quickly at that charge. Give us a list of the bullets you want to try, and I'll be happy to supply you with data from QL. Consequently, you're dealing with a cartridge that certainly is imbued with the cool factor.

I have a 25-284 and use starting load data from the 25-06 and work up.
usually hit max around 2-3gr under 25-06 data

The first bullet I would like to use is a 120 grain Speer Hot Cor. I have older powders and would like to
use them up first. They include H450, WW 780BR, Norma 205 and 203. Modern powders
IMR7828 and 4831, Re 22,19,17.

This is a Rem 722 short action. Brass is necked down Winchester 284.

Unfortunately, QL does not have data for most the older powders. However, here is the data for the newer powders and the Norma 203 (old).

Cartridge : .25-284 Win
Bullet : .257, 120, Speer BTSP 1410

Note that these data were calculated for the Speer BTSP No. 1410. A quick check shows that the data does not differ significantly when I substitute the Speer SP 1411. Also note that I calculated for a 24 inch barrel. If yours is a 22 inch, it will drop the velocity somewhat.

Good luck with your 25-284. It looks really good with those 120gr Speers! Holy smokes. Good luck with it. Hope it shoots well for ya. It is very cool. Scotty

At http://www.handloader.com . I found a load for a 120 gr bullet with 52.2 gr. of RL-19 for 3000 and change, also with the 140, 50 grains of 4831, for 2900. I know nothing about these loads as they were posted on the website.

Elkman, I'm curious who is making 140 grain .257 bullets, not sure if you looked up the right stuff?

That question was a tough one, Nosler makes the AB in 140, Sierra, and Barnes. Speer makes 3 different 145 gr bullets. I did a web search on .25X.284 and came up with the load data. The 120 gr. load seems consistent with the QL data Dr. Mike gave you!

You are greatly mistaken. These companies DO NOT MAKE .257 diameter 25 caliber bullets in these weights. I think somebody got .284 diameter 7mm bullet weights mixed up with .257 diameter 25 cal.

You are right !!!!! the web search header apparently had me confused. ???????? I havent figured out the load data as yet however.
