Made it out today with the new toy. It was almost like X-mas in March due to I finally have my .260 back and the first chance to use my new chrony I purchased last Dec.
Anyway, the .260 was a Rem 700 Varmiter 22-250 that I had turned into a .260. ( Easy job one would think, but I didn't receive what I ordered )
I loaded 8 different combinations and headed out to see what it would do.
After putting a few factory 140gr Remington rounds though it to get it sighted in, the first target were the first three shots out of it with handloads.........I really think the coyotes arn't going to like me very well...

Nice!!! It was a target cartridge long before Remington started selling it as a hunting cartridge... Great reputation among target shooters - and it's easy to see why with accuracy like that! Very nice indeed...

BTW try this load for a 25-06 twin

Thanks Guys !!
Out of the 8 different combo's I had loaded only one of them ended up over an inch.
I loaded some 107SMK's ( sorry POP ) with Varget and saw an average of 3176fps and a hair over .600 C/C.
I only wish I could get the M7 to shoot like that.... I don't have any H414 on hand, but will certianly try it in both.

POP... thanks again for the info !!

As long as you do not try to shoot big game with them at 1234 yards then I forgive you!

POP

I can't even say 1234yds let a lone shoot that far...... nope, I'm not a Sierra Stalker

Powerstroke, that is some fine shooting and you have a fine rifle. that is a keeper

SakoSteve,

Sako S/S 85 .260
held one a month ago or so and it's a great feel / fit for a small pack rifle.
I " DON"T " need three .260's....
Would like to figure out how to get rid of the M7 .260 that's the " wife's " and replace it with the Sako !!

Thanks Guys !!

I love my .260 it's a Remington Mountain Rifle, I am shooting 120NBT over 44.8grs of H414, very accurate in mine. It is a very overlooked round unfortunately.

Powerstroke,

Finnlight in 260 would be sweet! Where theres a will there is a way! :p
Not sure why the 260 hasn't caught on,maybe not enough "flash" for some.

Heath,
I just bout a pound of H414 tonight. Going to give it a try with both the 100 & 120gr B-tips this weekend.

SakoSteve,
I'm not sure either why it hasn't taken off better....The light recoil and endless projectile of the 6.5 has really won me over. The combo makes it a very accurate round and able to penetrate larger game fairly well. Both are a huge factor in my hunting.

Honestly, while I was going through the USAF NCO Academy in Colorado Springs I found a basically new Browning a-bolt in 260 Rem. It was topped with a new Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40mm scope in Leupy rings and bases. The WHOLE pacakge set me back 600 bucks.

Wow what a gun man! I reloaded 100 grain partitions at 3300+ fps and the whole thing weighed like 7.5 lbs. Basically a mountain rile in 25-06 that weighed nada!

It should be selling like hot cakes, but it doesn't help that its name sake has all but dropped rifles in this caliber from the factory.

I remember when I picked up my rem 700 mtn rifle in .260. It was on clearance at a gander mountain in houston becuase they couldn't sell it. Marked down to $600, I got them to knock off another $75 becuase it was a display model and got it for $525. I love this rifle like no other. I got a leopold VXII 3-9 40 on it. I would like to step up to the vxiii 2.5X8 or the Zeiss 3-9 40.

Think more people should concider the 260 as the best low recoil medium to big game cartridge than say is smaller sibilyn. Please no hate mail.

Oh good shooting great gun for sure.
