Here is my question: I have loaded 270 ABs purchased from a store, they came with a white tip. I recently purchased some AB factory 2nds and they came with a red tip. I measeured a few in the bag I opened and all measured with in spec and load without concerns. Does anyone know if this is how they mark them to differentiate between firsts and seconds? Or am I just being paranoid?

My hunting partner frequently buys 180 grain 30 cal. AccuBond seconds and they have all had the white tips-hope this helps!

It just means that they were seconds meant to be loaded as Winchester CT Accubonds. Red Tips and Black Lubalox Coating are the signature CT colors.

I am sure it is only a coincidence, but my groups with the red tipped accubonds have usually been smaller than the groups with the white tipped accubonds! It also really confuses people at the range when they see my .270WSM cases with red tipped bullets. Of course, I also have the silver tipped 130 gr Ballistic Tip 2nds, and the more conventional yellow tipped ballistic tip 2nds. The one thing they all have in common, is that they shoot great, and cost less. Hmm, kind of sounds like one of those old Lite Beer commercials.

TBASTIAN, you're absolutely right. Those bullets were simply sorted out before they were sent off to be coated. Its very rare to get coated 2nds because by the time they're done being coated, they've gone through 3 inspections already. Also, if you ever see a cannelure on your seconds, those are factory over-runs for Federal. Just a little FYI.

Yup! I have a mess load of 30 cal 200 gr red tipped AB's.

How can one get these in Canada? I currently reload Accubonds in my 300WM, 270WSM and a 7mmRM for a friend. I would really like to reload the CT Accubonds with the coating if possibly, but if I remember for another topic in the forum, you cant get them. :x

Factory seconds with the red tips would still be great.
