Does anybody have a favorite powder and why. I have been using RL19, RL25, and IMR7828. All powders work great for the bullets I have selected. Each powder only likes one type of bullet.

RL19 likes 130 AccuBond
RL25 likes 130 Partitions
IMR 7828 likes 150 AFrames

Any input welcome

Aaron

RL22 with 130 Accubonds gets me 3400 fps or so with 73 grains. 75-76 gr of rl 25 does the same and 73-74 of 7828 yield the same results

I've had good velocities and accuracy with IMR7828ssc and Accurate MagPro. I've had good accuracy with H4831, but velocities were below what I wanted.

I have excellent results with IMR 7828 with the 140 grain Hornady and the 130 grain silvertip. Reloader 22 is my current powder of choice . The velocity is down a little, but accuracy is excellent.

I think that this is some sort of a sign  I was looking over my Nosler book yesterday thinking about the 270 WSM that I have been wanting to build when I turned the page to the 270 Bee. Looks like it could be alot of fun. How do you guys like the 270 Bee? I've never owned any of the Weatherby rounds before. Fill me in a bit if you don't mind.

Thanks

Nothing wrong with Weatherby other than actual Weatherby brand brass is really expensive.

And non-Weatherby rifles in Weatherby chamberings are pretty scarce. IIRC, Remington made/makes .257s, did a run of 7mms a number of years ago, and there are quite a few .300s out there - I know Winchester has also done some.

Of course, building is always an option. I've been toying with the idea of a .340 on a Remington long mag action, and maybe a .375 (not a .378) on a Winchester CRF action.

For what it's worth, my 270Wby is my favorite rifle. I have the Mark V Synthetic, which is terrific for the money. The only flaw is the stock, which can be replaced for about $250 or so with a nice OEM model from Bell & Carlson. I like the US-made Mark V's, but the Japanese are nice as well. I've never handled a German model, but I hear they are nice, if a little different (safety and such).

I can exceed the 270WSM by a fairly wide margin in my 270Wby. I get 3450-3500fps out of 130gr bullets in front of IMR7828ssc. I have had to play around with seating depth to find the accuracy, but finally did so with the Nosler E-Tip. With the E-Tip, 130gr Hornady Interbond, 130gr Barnes TTSX, and 150gr Speer Spitzer (flat-based), and IMR7828ssc, Accurate MagPro, and H4831, I have been able to shoot consistently under .5" for three shots at 100yds, at various velocities. The potential for this cartridge is amazing. I've got a 315yd point blank range for white-tails with the 130gr load, and I'm only about 22" low at 500yds with that setup.

Brass is going to be the one area where you end up paying a penalty with the Weatherby, but once you have it, you're set up for a while, because the Norma/Weatherby brass is some of the best out there. Right now it's running anywhere from $135-150 per 100pcs, and I don't expect it to drop anytime soon.

If you're interested, I know where some used Mark V's in 270Wby are. I've done business with this shop for over 20yrs, and they are great folks. I can get you in touch with Will and he can take care of you. The prices on these used guns run from $495 on a synthetic to closer to $900 on a Lightweight (pre-ULW version). I suspect the prices are somewhat negotiable, and they will only charge you actual shipping. Beyond that, you pay your ffl to process it and it's yours. I know they had a Japanese synthetic, a US synthetic, a Fibermark, and the Lightweight. I don't know if they have anything else in 270Wby. They have a couple of 257Wby Accumarks for around $1k.

PM me if you need more information.
