Just acquired a custom Husqvarna 1600 and wondering what a good bullet weight would be to start with. I used to own a 270Bee some years ago (Vanguard Classic II) and back then I never had premium bullets to use so ended up with Ballistic Tips and Hornady SP. Was thinking of trying E-Tip or TSX in 130gr.

Here is a pic..

The 130 grain E-Tip would be a great bullet in your 270 Weatherby. Another bullet that would perform very well for you would be the 140 grain AB.

Nice rifle, congratulations!

What are you going to hunt with it?
For all around use, I would lean towards the 140 gr AB.

Thanks for the replies. I will use it on deer up to elk. So probably the 140gr AB might be a good all round weight. She has a custom Gaillard barrel and a Timney trigger. Not sure of the barrel length but it looks to be 26". Haven't received it yet, but is on the way :)

It came with RCBS dies, but I might buy a set of Forster BR. Love those dies!

I've had good results from the 130gr E-Tip over IMR7828ssc in mine. It took a while to figure out the E-Tips, but once I did, they work just fine and are nicely accurate. I've got a pound of RL22 I'm going to try this spring, but I don't know if I'll switch. During my load workups, I've had good results in accuracy and velocity from H4831sc, MagPro, and Accurate 8700 (now discontinued) as well.

I don't think you'll be wrong with any stout 130-150gr bullet, so if you like the AccuBond and they are accurate, that should be fine.

She arrived yesterday. I got dies, brass and 2 boxes of Hornady 140gr BTSP bullets with it in the deal. The previous owner was getting 1" groups with these bullets so she is a shooter.

I loaded up some 130gr TTSX and 130gr AccuBond over RL22. I went with 3.275" OAL for the TTSX and 3.250" for the AccuBond. Started at 68grs for the TTSX and went up to 72grs. With the AB, did 69grs up to 73grs.

I think the 150gr PT would be a monster in that big WBY case. My 270WSM pushes the 150gr PT over 3100 and I would think the WBY would do closer to 3200 with some good load work. That would be a hard hitting and flat flying load for elk/deer. The 140gr AB is a good one too, it is a great shooting bullet if your rifle likes it. Scotty

Scotty, I can attest to the ability of the 'bee to send out 150gr Spitzers of various types at 3250+. And you're right, it's a great use of the big Partition. On the other hand, I don't think there's much the 150gr Partition will do that the 130gr E-Tip won't do, and I'm having great success with the 130gr E-Tip at 3400-3450fps. It took a while to figure them out, but all is good now. The trajectory on that one gives me no holdover on a 5" target circle out to about 315yds, and only about 10" drop at 400, 24" at 500. From my albeit limited experience on game, this bullet has serious thump and excellent penetration.

Yeah, you are right Dubyam, I just like the PT more and since it still flings that big 150 so fast, it isn't hurting anything using the bigger bullet! Still haven't fully been switched over to the all copper bullets. Used them quite alot earlier on, but I still can't say they are better. They are awesome though and some serious hitters in the fast magnums. I would like to give them a try sometime, just to see how they work. I shouldn't be so prejudiced against them, as it is has been awhile since I have loaded and hunted with them. Scotty

If you haven't tried the E-Tip, Scotty, I highly recommend it. Unlike the Barnes, which are good bullets and very accurate, the E-Tips are not solid copper. That's the one flaw with the Barnes, in my experience, and it leads them to foul pretty bad in every rifle I've tried them in so far. The E-Tips foul like regular jacketed bullets, but you do have to load them a little differently. They can be as accurate as the Barnes, but so far are more temperamental then the TSX/TTSX in the few rifles I've tried them. I figured them out a bit, though, and it's been better since then, for sure. I would not hesitate to try them out in any fast chambering. I don't think they're necessary for slower stuff, like my -06 or 8x57, so I'm sticking with traditional cup and core stuff there. In fact, I'm using BT's in my 8x57, and hope to find a good 168gr BT load in the -06 when I start loading for it this spring.

Nothing wrong with the Partition, for sure, and if they were the most accurate in my 270Wby I'd sure be shooting them!

That is a great report. I might try some of them one of these days. I have some for 25 cal, but unfortunately I am in between 25 cals right now. Might be a good one to try in my 300WBY once I get it up and running. I am sure they are awesome bullets as I don't think Nosler makes a bad one. Thanks again for the comments Dubyam. Scotty
