Anyone have pet loads you have had good accuracy and performance with that you are willing to share? Will be loading for a friend who has one. Will start with 140 AB and 130 BT. Looking for some good starting points. Will be hunting white tailed deer and hogs in SC. Thanks for any and all input.

260, I am sorry I didn't see this sooner, but I have a few good loads for the mighty 270WSM!

First one is 72gr MagPro, WW Case, CCI250 Primer (2.875" COAL) and the 130gr Hornady Interbond. Don't have the chrono speed handy, but I think it was around 3300FPS.

Second, 150gr Nosler BT, WW Case, 66gr's RL22, CCI50 (2.860" COAL)
3075FPS.

Third, 150gr Nosler PT, WW Case, 64gr RL22 (2.860" COAL) 3150FPS

Fourth, same as above with 64gr of IMR7828.

I know they aren't the bullets you were asking about, but I would not use the 270WSM with 130gr BT's. I think it is asking for something bad to happen. You will easily push them into the 3200+ range and they will be like grenades. I would stick with the Accubonds, or move into the 150gr BT range. You will be around 3100 and hopefully you will have enough bullet to hold together on a close shot. I absolutely think the 270WSM was made to slay deer, and it is awesome on bigger game too, but you shouldn't have any issues using MAGPRO, RL22, RL19, RL17, H1000, IMR7828 or any other similar burning powder. You have way more than enough case capacity so if you can, use heavier bullets. SPS has 2nds of the 150gr .277 bullets right now and Accubonds, so try them out. I guarantee your buddy will be impressed. Scotty

I worked a load using 140AB and 61.5gn of RL-19. It may not be blazing for speed at 3018fps, but it sure is accurate. I also have a very accurate load worked up for the 130ET using 60.5gn of IMR4350 that goes about 3350fps.

Rich, that 130gr ETIP load sounds like dynamite. Wouldn't have any issues putting that into an elk! Do you still have/shoot your 270WSM? Scotty

Yeah, I still have it, but it hasn't seen much action since I added to my collection.

Since you are hunting hogs, I would lean towards the AB and PT designs. The 130 gr E-Tip would also work realy well on everything you would want to hunt with the 270 WSM.

My hunting load is a 130 grain E-Tip with 59.5 grains of RL17. This gives good velocity and excellent accuracy. I can speak from experience that it is enough to take down moose.

Thanks very much forthe input. I now have a good starting point. Will see what they do.

My two Tikka T3 LS 270WSM's with 140gr Accubonds shoot great. One likes it a bit hotter than the other. Compare the reload to the factory round....reloads alot taller for sure...just enough clearance in the clip.

Both use Retumbo and Federal 215 primers ....one with 69.0gr the other 71.0gr -Compressed Load. Both shoot well under 0.5" groups.
Close to 3260-3300 ft/sec.
I love this caliber and bullet combo. Very impressed with results on elk, moose, bear and deer....maybe the odd coyote too.

I have some 7828SSC and WS780 but never tried it yet. Been liking the Retumbo reloads since I did them back in 2005.

Your hunting load for the 270 WSM is 59.5 gr. RL17 for the 130 e-tip. What is your OAL and what primer do you use?
Thanks

Interesting, I'm shooting 59.5gr/R-17 with 150gr bullets in my 270WSM great accuracy @3066fps.

Greg,

My OAL is 2.352 inches to the olgive. I am using Winchester Large Rifle primers. This gives me 3257 fps with the 130 grain E-Tip and groups of 0.4 inches. It works very well for me.

Consequently, I have recently experimented with 140 grain Pt and H1000. A maximum charge of 72.5 grains, ignited with CCI250 primers and a COAL of 2.296 inches to the olgive (0.010 inches off the lands) gives me 3244 fps and 0.4 inch groups. This could become a new favourite load.

I also experimented with 140 grain Swift A-Frames and a 59 grain charge of H100V and WLR primers, which gave me 3110 fps and groups of 0.35 inches. I can wring more velocity out of this load, but the group begins to open up.
