What is the advantage of the 280 Ai over the 7 mm or the 284.
The data I have seen doesn't suggest much. Do any of you own a 280 Ai and how does it perform. Also do you guys have any pet loads for the 280 Ai?

My 280AI is based on a 700 action with a 24"Hart barrel.
The 280 AI offers 7mm Rem Mag ballistics with the added advantage of 4+1 vs 3+1 for the larger magnum case. You can also shoot 280 Rem factory ammo.
My pet loads for the 280 AI are:
160 gr AB
62.0 grs RL22
R-P case (soon to be Nosler)
Federal GM215M primer
MV is 3000 fps and accuracy is in the .2" at 100 yds.

120 gr BT
62.0 grs RL19
R-P case
Federal GM215M primer
MV is 3300 fps and my best 100 yd group is .277", first 2 shots went .100"

Outstanding!

My favorite 160 grain load for the 7mm Rem mag uses only a little more Reloader 22 (65 grains) and isn't much faster than your .280 AI load! For years I've thought the basic .280 Rem was under-appreciated. The AI version seems to be a great cartridge.

The 280 is underrated unfortunately. It is a great round.

You guys are right. If the 280 Rem was loaded to 270 Win pressures, it would out perform the great old 270 Win.
The 280 AI will rival the 7mm Rem Mag but keep in mind that you can load the 7 Mag hotter. Its all relative.

Thanks for the input. Do you think the Nosler rifle will perform like yours?
I put a deposit down on this years Nosler rifle and am looking foward to picking it up before my elk season starts. I like the sound of a 160gr @ 3000fps. That is close to some of my favorite 300 win loads. I recently purchased a 270 and I like the tame recoil. How is the 280Ai recoil compared to the 7mm.

SInce the Nosler rifle is a custom, I would think it would be an excellent shooter. The 160 gr AB at 3000 fps is 7mm Rem Mag territority, but with a little less recoil and an extra round in the magazine.
