Caught Yet "Another" Great Deal!

Hot dog, I got joy! Smith said rifle is ready! He said it ended up just a tad heavier, did not get in your face during recoil. He fired three shots for test fire...almost same hole he said! 185 TTSX factory load. I had bought two boxes, so I'm set up. I am too busy to work up handloads before my cow elk hunt , first of December. I plan on picking it up later today, whoopee!

He mentioned that he was not thrilled with the Talley Lwt mounts. He asked if I had any different bases. It turns out that way back, I had ordered a set of Leupold STD 2pc bases. I had two sets of rings, one extended, scope is a newer Leupold 2.5x8. He will tap/use 8x40 screws in the bases, Loctite everything. I am a Happy Boy! :)

Picked up my rifle! Hopefully, tomorrow PM I can get to the range. I will be pressed for time, but IF I can get it on paper at 100, I can then finesse it to a 200yds zero. That way, if I just can't get away again, I will be set! I will try and post pics! Hooray!

Well, I did pull the trigger on that LH Fierce Carbon Rogue in 7mm PRC with 24" barrel!
I will getting the threaded barrel protector for it, as I am not a fan if muzzle breaks, and will be going with a set of Talley Low Rings/bases with the 8-40 thread screws, as I will moving my VX-5HD 3-15x44 w/ B&C reticle to this rifle from my 6.5 PRC (I have another scope that I can use on it (Kahles w/ TDS reticle)).
Looking for Federal Terminal Ascent ammo for it now!

Gil,
Congratulations on the new rifle. The VX-5HD 3-15x44mm will make for a nice rig.

Finally got to the range this AM. After I got all set, I fired one shot at 100yds. Hit 1.5" high and two inches left. I made the corrections for windage, left the elevation alone. I then went to my 200yds target. I hit 2" high but 3" left. I moved scope 4 clicks down, but over-corrected and moved next round 6" right, but spot on for elevation. I split the difference and hit dead center. I set my CDS cap for 200yds, locked it down and went home! 4 shots, all done! Love it! Recoil of the Wby 185 TTSX @3100 felt like my little Kimber 270 with the warm 150 NPT load. Sweet, very sweet! ha

I can't get over how this Wby, factory brake handles the recoil of this 338 RPM. Even though it has approx. same capacity as the win Mag, I wonder if the burn rate, case design affects (if any( the recoil impulse? Any of you Physicists/Ballisticians have any idea?

Well now...brought home another sweet deal! Older Wby VanGuard (Blue metal/black synthetic) in 300 Wby Mag. Nikon 3x9 Pro something mounted. ( I will replace it with a new FFII 3x9 I have on hand. Rifle has a 5 port muzzlebrake already installed, leather sling and soft case...$350! I found another guy locally that had a bunch of new Wby factory ammo ( 1 box-180 TTSX and 3 boxes-180 IB plus 80 empties of mized 1x fired brass...$200. Oh yeah. Had my smith order me a Rifle Basix for it. Will just tighten all screws after that and see how it shoots. Not planning on taking it in December cow elk hunt. Using my RPM for that. Shucks, I have never played with a 300 WBY, so its about time for that.

I will be honest Preacher, I've lost count of how many rifles you have picked up and cycled through in this thread :ROFLMAO:
always thinking to myself everytime I open it "what has he found this time":)

Ha! I love to trade, etc. Sometimes the deal falls through, sometimes I back out. Sometimes I sell for a profit, sometimes I keep/or give them away. Life is too short, and I find myself in the Last Stretch of The Race...I have to make the most of it!

The muzzle brake will definitely cut down on the recoil. Stock design is another factor involved in recoil reduction.

It feels more like the "push" of a braked 35 Whelen, heck, even 375 H&H, not the sharp "jab" of fast 300's.

I asked my Smith to order me a Rife Basix trigger for this VanGuard (Howa) They have been good triggers for me in several makes. Usually, Rugers and Mausers. I'm going to mount a new Burris FFII 3x9 on it instead of the Nikon Prostaff that came with it. I know nothing about this particular scope. I don't want to waste ammo just to find out it doesn't hold zero, etc. So far, the plan is to screw everything down tight and shoot it as is. If its a shooter, I'll have to tweak it, ha. If not, then I can determine how much I want to pursue to get it that way.
I took the (what looked like Weaver slotted bases) off and the screws were the wrong length. way too short for this caliber, no matter. I';; have my Smith tap/replace with 8x40s. The bore looks perfect, and the bolt face shows little, if any firing!

Yes the 300 Wby is a very entertaining cartridge. 165gr TTSX and 124gr Hammer Hunters are what I’m using and are easy to shoot.

I have some 168 TTSX on hand. What powder you using with those 2 bullets?

165gr TTSX 87.4 grs RL-26 3.560”
124gr HH 90.5grs N555 3.500”
Both Wby brass
