So what would be the most effective bullet on a mule deer say out to maybe 600 yards with good shot placement?? I would like to stay between 2900-3000fps
Maybe some day might even try for an elk with the 280AI

Welcome to the forum buddy. I would check out the 160gr AB in your 280AI. Doesn't get too much better for that cartridge. Should be able to clear 2900 pretty easily. It has high BC, hangs together well and should be accurate. Scotty

I know with 162gr amaxes and H1000 and was hitting around 2950fps, but alot of people have said the amaxes don't make very good big game bullets, the wife has a 300SAUM and we have been shooting 150gr accubonds in it, but am thinking about bumping her up to 165gr accubonds.
Have never been real successful at getting bergers to shoot. Thanks for the info.

I think the 160 AB's have been one of the more accurate bullets I have used. They work excellent in my 7WSM and didn't need a whole lot of tweaking. If you are getting 2950 from the 162 A-Maxes, I think you'll be in great shape with the 160 AB's. Those are a great bullet and seem to hold up really well.

I haven't messed with the 165 AB much, but I plan on giving them a whirl in the 300WSM soon. Scotty

RL 22 is your powder. With a MAX load, my avg MV is 3019 fps from a 24" barrel and my best group went .092" c/c.

Jim that sure is a pretty rifle! Is it a Remington? Boy is Scotty going to give you some grief on that one!

I never AI'd my 280 and it was a plain Jane, but I sure liked the 140 gr. Partition in it, and the AccuBond had not appeared on the scene quite yet. I think the 140 gr. AccuBond would also be a really sweet long range hammer.

Yes, a M700 blueprinted action, Tubb recoil Lug, Hart #5 fluted 24" barrel, Pillar bedded in a LSS stock.
This buck was shot with a 160 gr AB.

90 gr. 6mm E-tip at 100, 30-06 165 gr. AccuBond at 100, 100 gr. 6mm Partition at 100 yards

90 gr. 6mm E-tip at 300 yards. 2487 fps at 300 over the chronograph screen.

Wish I had the AccuBond and Partition at 300 for comparison. Maybe this summer!

I'm very pleased with it. I tried some 168gr Berger VLD and could only get those just over 0.750"..It's wearing a Leupold 4.5-14 VX-3L 30mm, Bell and Carlson medalist stock that I glass bedded

The pair I just finished. The dark one is the Rem 700. The tan is a Win 70 that used to be my 280 Featherweight

Actually the bbl on the Rem finished out just under 26". I used a Manson Rem 700 receiver truing kit on the action and a PTG chamber reamer.
