The rifle is a Vanguard Sporter, 30-06 & 24" tube.

The recipe:
Brass: WInchester (virgin)
Brass trim: 2.48"
Powder: H4350 and 53.5gns
Bullet: 180 E-Tip
COL: 3.39" (measured tip to base)
Primer: GM210M

3 shot group @ 100M

The loads I tried were from 52 to 54gn in .5 increments. Since Nosler doesn't have published data for the 180gn and H4350, I stopped at 54gn. I didn't encounter any pressure signs at 54, but since the 53.5 load worked, I'm done. Like JD338's signature states, "velocity is nice, but accuracy kills" or something like that.

I initially loaded some RL-22, but had a horrible time getting the bullets to seat to 3.39 COL. They kept creeping back out. I did fire them today, and one wouldn't let me close the bolt. I didn't fire them for grouping, just standing free-hand practice.

Outstanding shooting Richard and don't do anything to that load. You have encouraged me to try the 180gr E-Tip since the 165gr did not work for me in my 30-06. It was around a inch to inch and a half but I want it 1/2" or under. That was an excellent group you fired and thanks for the load data along with the picture of the target. I am going to also try it in my 300Wby. Man a picture is surely worth a 1,000 words. Good job Richard.

You have given me the E-Tip fever with that target you displayed.

E-Tip FEVER!!!

Nice group

I was just looking for some load information for 180gr e-tip in my Howa 1500 30-06. I just happen to have a pile of H4350, now I know were to start 8) .

52gn of H4350 gave a similar group. 54 gn opened up to about 1". You can probably try up to 55gn.

I hope it works out for you.

Rich,

NICE SHOOTING!!!
What did that group measure?
How far off the lands?

Thanks Jim
I didn't measure the group size.
As for how far off the lands, I don't remember. I got that COL # the old way, coat a bullet with a marker, dent the neck of a piece of brass and then chamber it, and then measure the COL. I think it might be around .020 off the lands. For some reason, I want to say the COL for the above was 3.41 or so. Sorry guys, I just don't remember that part. I settled on the 3.39 COL for developing the 180AB load for this rifle, and hoped it would work with the 180ETs.

I know this is the reloading forum, but since it was my post to begin with, I thought it only fitting to reply with my 30-06 w/180ETs first kill. Although a larger hog was desired, I'll take small one too. The pig was about 75 yards away, waited for a broadside shot and let him have it. The bullet entered his left shoulder and exited through his right ear. Well, I guess he wasn't comletely broadside or the bullet did some strange stuff upon impact. Either way a dead pig, bang flop, just the way I like it. Eventually, I chrono the load like I mentioned earlier. Here are the pics of piglet, he's a bit dirty due to the mile and a half drag.

Any pig is a good pig. I spent 27 years hunting South Monterey, San Benito and San Louis Obispo counties. Thank you for the pictures and info. Was the kill on public or private land? I'm a certified Hogoholic. Congrats on a successfull hunt. I havn't tried E-Tips yet but I will soon because my be-loved Accubonds aren't allowed where I hunt hogs.
Good Hunting

WOW RICH!!!!!!!!!

VELOCITY?

5 shot average velocity is 2750 fps

Rich,

You have your self one fine load with plenty of speed and great accuracy!
Penetration should be more than enough for anything you would use a 30-06 on.

Nicely done!
