Went shooting here yesterday with the .300H&H. We did some testing/sigters with the ironsights + a velocity test on some loads.

200 Grain Nosler AB did 908 m/sec or 2979 ft/sec. Ain´t bad for this old warrior.
The iron sights were regulated to the 220grain Roundnose. As seen on the target. The ironsight were quite well regulated. At 140 yards the 100 meter(110yards) standing sights printed the shots just a tad above with the 220 grain RN. Velocity recorded was 2710 ft/sec.
My aimingpoint was six O´clock below the square.
My plan is for this rifle is heavy bullets with ironsights sights, and faster lightweight bullets with a scope.

Pretty impressive for the old warrior. It is a lovely rifle, to be certain, and she can still deliver the goods.

Wow, that is an awesome rifle! What a looker and man, it looks like a great shooter! That rifle looks just made to hunt. Those old bolt rifles with iron sights are just awesome!

What is your load with the 200 grain Nosler? That sounds like a load that'll do just about everything!

RM

Very nice rifle. Your loads are impressive and would no doubt cover anything you would want to hunt with the 300 H&H.
What glass are you going to mount?

These loads here are loaded 7 years ago just bfore going to Scotland for my first huntingtrip. The other day was the first time I actually had a chance to chronograph them.
The 200 Nosler AB load consist of 70grain Norma MRP. Length = 91,5mm. Fed 215. Winchester brass.
The 220grain RN(Hornady) is the same except I use 65 grain MRP.

The scope I plan to use is a Karl Kaps 4x36 on a Recknagel G9 as shown here. The rear locking piece is in backorder.

The 300 H&H is an impressive cartridge. 150grains will do 3250 ft/sec if needed and a 240grain doing 2620 if needed. Versatillity is the name of the game and the H&H delivers.
The barrellength is 24" only.

RM, your rifle is incredible! Just an awesome rifle and that scope will look PERFECT once you get it all squared away. Thank you for sharing the pictures. I plan to get me some MRP once it starts coming back around. It is supposed to be a more refined version of my favorite, RL22.

Your right, that is a super combo.

RM, we do not see the Karl Kaps scopes very much here in the US. I have seen them in gun shops in Germany. They seem to be a fine scope? Nice looking setup.

The Karl Kaps is a great Scope. One rarely see any used ones for sale. People keep them. They cost half of a Zeiss or Swarovski and they are in my opinion just as good. They make plain huntingscopes and are not so much into anything else.

I thought long and hard about the #1 but too busy right now.....
too many irons on the fire

RM - what a great rifle. The wood on that Mauser is terrific! I like the figure in the buttstock, but the curve of the grain flows correctly through the wrist, for good strength there, where it's really necessary. Nice.

Yes, the .30 cal magnums in general are all very versatile. A guy could actually hunt pretty much any big game with them - only going to a bigger rifle for the truly biggest dangerous game. The .300 H&H has been forgotten by many, but there's no reason it won't still do the job. Something very cool about those long, gently tapered cases too.

I thought seriously about a .300 H&H Number One to go along with my .375 Number One. That would be a nicely matched pair of hunting rifles.

Regards, Guy

Thanks you all.

I look forward to in 2015 to try a Nosler ABLR. I have high hopes for the 180grain.

In my opinion the 300 H and H, 300 Win Mag and 300 WSM are the trifecta of perfection where 300 Magnums are concerned. Like Guy Miner said, you only would have to go to a bigger rifle for the truly biggest dangerous game.

Sweet rifle, and it's doing pretty well at those speeds with a 200gr bullet! Makes me wanna go work up some hotter loads in my 300H&H (a Winchester M70 "prewar") now. And Guy, I will get a Model 70 in 375H&H some day to compliment my 300. They seem to be a good pairing. :)

RM,
You've got some truly beautiful rifles. I still get weak in the knees looking at your pre-64 .270 WBY! Thanks for sharing. Any chance you'll be trying out the new 210 or 190 ABLR when it heads our your way?

Thanks Joe.

By next year, there ought to be a chance the new Noslerbullets will get here...no joke either. It takes about a year before we get to see them.
