Well I just picked up this Remington stainless in 300 RUM on Monday, against most everyone's advise (I'm thick headed like that), got it in trade for my Tikkay T3. Got some loads loaded up last night and went to the range this morning.

This group was the last group I fired in the morning and had already shot 12 rounds of 7 Mag and 15 rounds of 30-06 and 9 or so of the RUM. This target and FPS and ES and SD (listed at the top of the photo) were impressive. The target was not all too bad in my opinioin. I'm very excited. THis was using 87 grains of IMR 7828SCC (what I had) and Fed 215 in RP brass.

Corey,

Nice shooting! That is a keeper group. The ES and SD don't get any better!
Looks like your 300 RUM has a 26" barrel.

You done good buddy.

Nice shooting. But jeez, if I didn't take a light kicker along, I'd still have a facial tic two days later! :)

Very true, though it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Of course I cheated and bought an additional pad to wear on the shoulder and it has a nice soft recoil pad. I think it had worn on me though. I'm still in shock of the sheer speed of this cartridge.

I've got the same rifle and cal. I'm running 3330 fps and it's major accurate out to 500 yds. and probably way beyond that. I took a mule deer and a hog with it last year and they both retired in place. I've got a 5-20 Monarch with BDC ret. and it's not too much scope for that caliber.
Congrats, you made a good purchase on a weapon that projects a lot of power from a light platform. I put a muzzle break on mine.

I was seriously thinking about a muzzle brake (muscle brake) but with theextra shooting pad it was not bad off the bench. I'm guessing I won't notice the recoil inthe field, have not yet.

What a great shooting 300RUM! Glad you went with the minority on your pick. I had very impressive results with 7828ssc and RL-22 with 180gr SSTs when I broke in my 300RUM. RL-25 shot very well with the 200gr AB but Retumbo has been the best so far.

I would like to eventually go to the 200 ABs, but do not have the money to do that right now. Next year I will stock up on those and 7828. Going out today to shoot the same load again to prove that it is a good load.

Shooters Pro Shop has 200gr AB seconds in stock.

Never tried the 200gr AB with 7828. Retumbo has worked so well with the 200 that I stop load work with it.

Nice shootin... I wouldn't change a thing. The 180 ABs will shoot flatter than the 200s out to 1000 yards, and they will certainly flatten anything that gets in the way - at the speeds your 300 is making.

Awesome...

I know tell me about the price, I saw those yesterday but there is just no way to do it this year. That is the way it goes. Thanks for all the kind words. I'm looking foward to hunting with the rifle very soon (bear tonight hopefully).

I didn't go to the 200 gr because I like the trajectory. It matches my bdc perfectly and nothing's ever crawled away from a hit. I went without a brake for quite a while and certainly never noticed the recoil during hunting until one day I decided to absorb most of the recoil with my eyebrow. I got a little excited and sloppy while shooting at a antelope.
Congrats. Mine is going to Idaho this year as primary rifle for mule deer. It did the job in Wyoming last year.

smith send me your address i have some 200g accubonds collecting dust on my bench you can have and i may have some 210 vlds laying around to really make that 300 rum shine if i do you can have them also. my 30-338 has a 1-11 and all i shoot through it are the 190 vlds so the others are useless to me there all yours.
