What are your guys favorite 300 Savage loads. Should have my Grandpa's Model 99 here pretty shortly, looking forward to loading for it, still need dies and cases, but I imagine I'll run some 150 PT's or AB's as I have a couple extra laying around.

Going to probably get some Hornady cases, as that is about all that is around right now. Other than that, I am wide open to any suggestions.

That's a classic gun Scotty, those are great bullets to try I would also look at the Hot Cor's and maybe a 165 gr Deep Curl for a 300 Savage. I remember reading guys using the 170 gr Partition for the 30-30 and doing well.

Scotty

Congratulations on getting your grandpa's M99 300 Savage. I always liked the rotary magazine.
the 150 gr PT would make a dandy woods load as would the 170 gr PT.

Good idea Gerry. If I can find them, I just might try the Deep Curls. Good idea about the 170 PTs. Forgot about them.

Great ideas, thank you.

That is just great, Scotty. The Model 99 is certainly a classic. I can't imagine a finer chambering than the 300 Savage for that rifle.

I load the 130g Hornady Soft Points in my 308 Win at about 2800fps for a real nice and mild load. I reckon they would do a good job on deer and goats in your 300 Savage. They certainly work well on the pigs around here providing shot placement is even half decent.

This rifle has been floating around the family for a few years, and I was finally able to get my hands on it, and I don't plan on letting it go. My grandpa used it for a truckload of deer in the Adirondacks and also a moose, elk, antelope and muley's in the few trips he made West. I think he actually used 180 Silvertips for everything, but I will stick with some 165/150's I think.

Look at soft bullets in 170-160 range. Do not over look types like the 160gr Flextip 308 MARLIN bullet, 308 Rem 170gr clrn, 165 speer Mag tip (fast expanding).
The PT and AB 150-165 should all expand fast too.

If your going premium price like a PT the Hawks RT in .030" jackets will work too.

Thanks Fotis, I happen to have a bunch of SST's on hand, that could do well in that rifle as well. W748 looks pretty good as well. I have some of that and IMR4064 too, so I imagine something along those lines will work well.

The 300 savage is a great little round. I load 165 grain hot cors on top of 4064 in granddads old 722, getting right at 2690 from the 24" barrel, kids have killed the heck out of every elk they've pointed it at. have had extremely good results with 3031 and 130 grain ttsx and hornady sp's on whitetails and pigs. Enjoy the rifle!

I use 41 grains 4895, 150 interlocks, WLR primer in my remington 700 300 Savage. It shoots amazing and is absolute death for deer.

Thanks Bill, I have some H4895 as well. Need to get some dies and cases yet, but I will be monkeying with the rifle a little in the upcoming time. Be cool to take a deer with it this Fall.

I always used IMR 4064 or W748 in my .300 Savage. However mine was a 722 Rem bolt action and I just used .308 loads, minus 1/2 grain of powder. You don't! want to do that to a Model 99!!!

Bill,

I wish I would have bought a 700 Classic in 300 Savage a few years back.
It would make for a dandy WT rifle.
