I hunt whitetails in VA with a 300 whisper. Fun round developed years ago by JD Jones at SSK. I load supersonic 125 gr Nos BT around 2400 fps using H110 and Subsonic 1050 fps using N110.

For Subsonic deer hunting I use 220 gr Sierra MatchKings or 225 gr Outlaw State Bullets, (ouch, $1.25 each) The outlaw state bullets expand at subsonic velocity. I have killed a bunch of deer with them but have not recoved any bullets. The outlaws do seem to turn a deers chest cavity into jello.

Any other 300 whisper loaders out there? What bullets and powder are you using successfully?

For subsonic-10.2grs AA1680, 220gr Hornady RN. Hunting load-17.5grs H-4227, 125gr Nosler BT.Rick.

SSK, MGM, EA Brown barrels are 1 in 8 twist. My Thompson Center barrels are 1 in 10. All shoot 125 and 150 gr nosler BT's great. The SSK and MGM barrels with the faster twist are needed to keep the big 220-240 gr bullets stable and not touching the baffles on a suppressor.

If I had it to do all over again, I would have only bought 1 in 8 twist barrels as mine seem to shoot super sonic as well as the slower 1 in 10 twist barrels.

I had never heard of this caliber until a shooting club buddy of mine in Paraguay begged me to bring him a 10 inch SSK 300 whisper barrel for his Thompson Contender back in 2000. He is a steel ram shooting maniac. He won their national's three years back to back with that barrel. I have since taken 6-7 other barrels to other club friends. Now Marcos has to work hard for a win.

Its my favorite plinking and hunting round. Almost zero recoil, quiet, and cheap to load.

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you here with us.
The 300 Wisper is a cool round. My friend has one for his T/C Contender. I hope to shoot it some time. I didn't realize that there was a 220 gr bullet out there that would expand at subsonic speeds, pretty cool.
If you can, post some pictures for us.
