Well, these are the other three children I have been working on. First up was the 270WSM, I loaded 4 each of 71-75gr of Magpro with the 130gr Hornady Interbond. First load with 71gr put a very nice 7/8 triangle in the tgt. 72 did about the same and after that, they just got worse. I am pretty sure I have narrowed them down. I am going to load 8 more of the 71 and 8 of the 72gr and see what comes up. That rifle has always been fantastic with about anything through it.
300 Mag next. Nightmare. Did the same thing as the 270WSM. Loaded from 71-74 grains (IMR 4831) over the 165gr HDY Interbond. 73 looked really good and 74 was the same. Well, loaded 20 of the 74's and shot them at 3 shot groups. It was very inconsistent. 2 shots would be really close, and the third would be out there(wasn't always the first shot, and it was intermittent). I did let the barrel cool one minute between shots and about 15 minutes between groups). I have been measuring all charges, and making sure length and everything else is consistent. I am going to drop back to the 73gr charge and check it out. That grouped very well, and seemed to be all the 165 needs to do what it is supposed to.
7mm Rem Mag. I have 4lbs of H870, and that has always been an excellent powder for 160's in the past. Well, I have some old load data from Speer and loaded 76-78 with 175gr HDY Interlocks. 4 shot groups. They were all over 2". None of them got better or worse really. Just a ton of recoil and not a whole lot of accuracy. I have some Speer 160gr Mag Tips, that I have loaded up with the old data of 78-80 and will give them a try next time. That rifle has always been an excellent shooter. I really don't want to buy more bullets, as i have alot of these on the bench, so we shall see how they work out. I have been working about .025 off the lands for all of them. I would mess with seating depths, but it seems pointless until I get a little closer to what I want.
I did just sit down and clean the heck out of all of them, with CR-10 and made sure patches were coming out clean, so the next range session should show something. Anyhow, just wanted to let you all know what I was up to since I have been home. Makes me wish I had a range in the back yard. Takes too much patience to wait to go to the range. If you guys see anything that may help, let me know. Scotty
