Caught this guy cruising the edge of a tall grass field with 2 minutes of legal shooting light left.

You tagged a fine buck; that's for sure. Congratulations! The '06 sending a 165 grain BT into deer-size game is a recipe for success.

Congratulations very nice.. Welcome to the forum. This is the first time I have seen your posts.

Lurker mostly, but I could have sworn I've posted to the forum before.

Yup! You began posting back in October. It is good to have another hunter joining us.

Congratulations! Nice buck.

The .30-06 and 165 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip is a great combination.

Regards, Guy

Nice deer and the 30-06 use to be my favorite but the 35 Whelen /AI is rapidly replacing it.

Good looking buck, congratulations. There are a few big fans here of the 30-06 and 165 gr BT's.

I have owned/own multiple calibers in magnums on down and have yet to find anything I appreciate more than the boring 30-06. Its a classic caliber that just plain works.

Great buck...what I like about the 165/168 is that mythical " flat as a 150, hits as hard as a 180" I read about, way back in the late 70's. I see it in both the '06 and the 308. I never felt any kind of "need" for a 180 in either, but the 180 seemed like the best bet for the 300 mags. Now, admittedly, I do like the 200gr Partition in the '06 for big hogs and elk...it is a sweety! Congrats on you long shot on the doe too!

Thank you. I cut my trip short since I tagged out early. Saw no need in sitting around while heavy rain was moving in. Was hoping to get some coyote hunting in.

Bewilderment and exhaustion marks each of us as we approach the point of going to work! Still a beautiful buck. (y) See, the deer so absorbed the viewers that we didn't see your expression.

Nicely done !
Like most of the fellas here I have way more rifles than I need (don't tell my wife I said that though )
and the first rifle dad gave me was an Interarms Mauser in 06.
I've killed a pile of deer with it over the years and so has my brother.
The boring old 06 , and a 165 NBT. All the rifle I ever needed, but wanted is a different story.

That and a nagging back ache from arthritis and two protruding disk in my lower back. Oh yes, and a trip outside of camp we call the gut pile. A covered hole with YEARS worth of dead deer carcasses. Not a plesent place to visit on a breezy warm day.
