338 - 210 vs. 225 Partition

The 225 gr Partition in 338 appears to be the better choice relative to retained velocity/energy at longer ranges, however the 210 gr Partition seems to be favored by all the facotry ammo manufacturers. A 338 load with the 225 Partition is only avilable as a handload.

I don't see the logic, am I missing something. Why isn't the 225 gr Partition more popular?

I don't know, but the one I elk I shot with a .338 and 210gr. Noslers didn't take another forward step (bullet went right through the heart).

I don't know why either.... I am trying to convince them to load the 225

The 210 is an awesome bullet. RMEF has allowed us to designate it for the official 338 bullet of RMEF. A portion of proceeds goes to that organization.

I prefer the failsafe over the partions it seems to work very well in my browning bar, loaded with imr4350 @70grains of powder, it will put an elk down in its track an retain 99percent of the weight. :)

Failsafe over Partition? HERETIC! :p

I load for my .338 and I tried several bullets and powders over the space of a year or so. I also settled on the 225 grain Partition because it just plain shot better in my rifle. I tried 160 & 185 Barnes and they were pretty fast but not accurate at all. Then I tried Barnes 210's and they weren't much better. When I shot the 225 I got less than 1" groups at 100 yds. with 72 Grs. of IMR 4350. This load averaged 2896 fps on the bench and it was flat enough to kill a Mule Deer at 550 yds. So, I think it's the best bullet of them all. Accuracy actually gets better with the 250 gr. bullet but you really don't need it unless your in big bear country.

They should load 225's.

The 210 Partition kills elk like magic in a .338!!! It is the first and only bullet I ever tried to load. My first load with the 210 Partition shot Under .75 MOA from my A-Bolt and chronos out at 3050 fps. I've shot some huge bodied elk with it and it literally slams them to the ground. It just plain works !!!

I am thinking since most of the consumers are velocity nuts the higher velocity achievable with the 210's is more appealing.

I shoot the 210geNP from my .338-06 & feel this bullet was made for this cart. The 250gr are a bit more accurate but @ 2750fps, the 210gr is a bit more versital & I have only ever recovered one bullet from animlas up to & including Zebra. Funny the 225grNP shoots poorly in my .338-06, go figure.
The 225grNP is relatively new to the .338mag users. People get used to using one bullet & tend to stick w/ it. "if it aint broke". I have a .338x74K, sim. to a .338wm, & am using the .225grNP & NAB as my rpimary bullet. Again the 250gr are a bit more accurate, but the 225gr gives me the best of the 210gr & 250gr.
