35 Whelen AI Project Coming Home

Very nice rifle. A fella could really get along well with such a combo. Congrats and cannot wait to hear how it shoots for you.

All I can say is Sweet, I am sure looking forward to your range reports ! I am sure it will be a shooter (y).

Blessings,
Dan

Had an opportunity to get out and do a quick range session and form a little brass. Pretty happy with the results.

First 3 shots - top round from a clean bore, next 2 touching. Hornady 200grn Superformance. Velocity on this one is just under 2900 FPS.

I loaded 5, 250 PTs @ 62.0grns RL-17 and 5 @63.0, and did the same for the 250 Hot-Cor.

This is the 250 PT with 62.0 - it chronographed just a few FPS above 2500. QL indicated that 26.7 should be 2525, so it is correlating pretty close. Not a bad group, but I would think it will tighten up as work towards max.

The best of the day was the 250 Hot-Cor with 63.0. Too bad the last shot dropped out. The first 4 went 0.77" C-C. The rounds on the left were from the 62.0 load, before I made a scope adjustment.

I also ran my cast 300grn HPs. They did quite well, grouping about 1.35" for 6 shots. These were water dropped, and loaded over 52.0 grns WC852f. This load chronographed 2070 FPS, and it is at least 4 grns below max. Round in the upper left is one of the Hot-Cors.

Beautiful rifle in a great caliber! I love how those featherweight m70 stocks feel. That should be a great package you have right there!
