I think I would like to try some 280gr Swift A-frames in my 358 Norma mag.
My loading manuals only go up to 250gr.
Does anyone have load data for the 280gr Swift A-frame in the 358 NM?

Thanks in advance.

Randy

Swfit No. 1 Manual lists IMR4350 as the most accurate powder with the 280 grain A-Frame. They list a maximum of 70.0 grains to produce a velocity of 2524 fps.

May I ask what you are hunting that you need to use a 280gr Swift A-Frame on?

seriously, It's my elk rifle and I just wanted to try them.
Way over kill I know.

Not sure if the 250gr Nosler Partition is enough bullet.............HA HA

If I was hunting Antelope I would be using a 416 Weatherby.

You've been reading too many of POP's postings.

Undoubtedly, the 358 Norma will get the job done. I don't know that the 280 A-Frame is too much bullet. They are available, and they will definitely put the hunt on an elk when launched at 2500 fps or more.

Mike, that is really funny man, he and POP can check out and compare wound channels and see if a 416Wby or 358 Norma which one leaves behind the most meat.

Are trying to line up a bull and cow in line and take them with one shot??

bigger & heavier is better. I know 250's work great in a whelen so if I had a 358nm I would probably try 280's.

Isn't antelopes deadly and you want at least a 375, preferably bigger but 35 cals will get you by.. At least thats what I have gathered from reading post on here. The one exception is the 264wm.

The .300 Winny wants to be a .375 when it grows up......

Yes it does want to grow up and be a .375, but it does not want to grow up to quick and have to settle for old arms that can't reach way out there and touch something far off.

Velvetant I loaded the 338WM with 275gr Speers to 2650 with RL22 and man what a great combo that would be for those dangerous antelope and other unsavory critters. I would think you would get the same or more speed outta the 358 Norma and the Swifts. That would be one awesome round for about anything. Love those 35 cals. Hard to beat them. Scotty
