358 Norma Mag

I built this up about 12 years ago and last year I had it ceracoated and put a new scope on it
Ruger action/wood stock
Shilen #5 contour
Glass bedded.
I built it for elk/bear but have not had a chance to use it on them, only a couple of pigs

I don't have the heart to tell it it's not a varmint gun.
for reference the inner white of the sqare is 1/2"
Load: 250gr NPT at 2800fps.
I tried the 225 NAB but cant get it to do better then 2 1/2"

I loves me some .35s! I too would like to add a .358 Norma to my safe (along with a .350 Rem Mag). Just trying to figure what action I would use. I have a Savage 7RemMag in my safe that sees no use, and an Interarms Mk. X, so I guess that would work, but I also like the idea of a Ruger Hawkeye or a CRF M70.

Man, that is one really nice rifle. I am also another .358 nut. I am with Mike, when the right rifle comes along, it is going to get the 358 Norma treatment. That is one REALLY accurate rifle. When I started my 358 Norma mag project I really wanted the 358 STA but all I had was the Ruger action to work with.
So I had to settle with the :grin: little :grin: 358 Norma Mag
It really is my favorite rifle to shoot but it only gets out a few times a year.

I really want to but I'm taking care of my sick mom since my dad passed and my life has been on hold for the last 8 years.
I can get away for part of a day but a real hunt is out of the question for now.

velvetant the 225 ABs will not shoot in my 358 STA either. And I get 1/2" two shot groups with 280 gr. Swift A Frames. Of course it just as accurate with others but I just mentioned this because A Frames are not the easiest to get to group tight. Nosler list the 225 ABs for the 35 Whelen. I wouldn't mind trying an AB designed for the faster 358s. 225s or 250s.

That's an awsome rifle and caliber. I'm still wanting to do the 358 RUM but havn't and find myself spending more and more time on Gunbroker looking for a 358 Norma. I think you did real well and sure planted some seeds of interest in the group here on the forum.
