45-70 bullets

Thanks Guys,,,I did have to make a correction on the weights,,,sometimes hard to remember what I have, and going from memory isn't what it use to be.
The BRP heavyweight is 465grs. rather than the 475 I had it at. And the AM heavy is 470 grs. rather than the 465 I had it at.
I actually had the BRP mold made for a backup, as I was planning on using the AM 405 gr. on most everything except the critters that might bite back. I'm glad I got the BRP now, as economic times forced Bruce to sell his equipment, and go to work for the company that bought him out. All the designs shoot well enough tumble lubed with 45-45-10 in my gun for my intents.. For me it's a 100-150 yd hunting setup, but that's me. If I had to live with just one or staying with a one load per gun as most of my others, it would either be the 405 or 425. Either starting out at 1550-1600 fps, there is little if anything on this Continent that would take more than 1 well placed round. Cast of hard alloy, they will penetrate most anything here lengthwise, if thats what is wanted or needed. Cast soft, well,,, they just make a bigger hole  At the speeds I run them, I wouldn't have to gascheck them. But I just feel for 2-3 cents, the GC's just are a little easier to find accurate loads for. Plain base can be very accurate however, so I hear. And if I really wanted to push the .45-70, I would likely have a single cavity mold made for a paper patch application in 400 grs.. Something like this,,,

Regardless, cast is the only way I can afford to feed the 45-70 and shoot it as much as I like.

Wont be long Scotty

beretzs it is an extremely accurate bullet in both my 21" contender barrel and my guide gun. I took my deer in the 2010 season with this bullet. The deer was slightly angled and hit it high in the front shoulder it past luckly under the back strap and above the gut sack and exited just at the beginning of the hind quarter. Very little bloodshot meet and pretty much went thru the length of the deer. I was using 27.5 grns of 5744 to push this bullet along.

Im thinking of ordering the 460 Ranchdog mold to try them out- Since I need to start casting fishing sinkers before the Spring Salmon season in April- I make sinkers and bullets at the same time.
