I have not reloaded much for the automatic hand guns since buying bulk ammo is cheaper than reloading it.
I recently loaded some 45 auto and was very suprised at the results.
I loaded some RP cases with a CCI 300, 5.8 grs of Unique and topped it off with a hornady 230gr HP/XTP. The groups out of my Kimber Elite carry were ragged hole @ 10yds. I haven't shot that pistol in aproximately 9 months and never had groups like that before.
Any way, do any of you have any tips and favorite loads for the 45 auto?

5.5 gr VV n320 under a 185 gr Nosler HP with Federal 150 primers.

If more "Omphhh" is wanted, try 8.5/9.0 gr of Power Pistol with the same bullet and primer.

Most of my loads though are LSWC plinking/practice loads with Penn 200 LSWC over 4.8 gr VVn320 or Titegroup. Both are very mild and as accurate as the shooter.

My favorite practice/target load is 5.3gr of Win231. I've shot tens of thousands of rounds with that load.

I'm not sure what youpay for factory ammo, but one can easily cut the best prices in half for .45acp. Just about any fast to medium burning powder works well. I An old favorite is Unique especially under lead bullets, very accurate.

The 185 gr Nosler HP is a very good bullet and shoots good groups from both my 1911s. I use Win231 in various amounts depending on what I'm gonna do with the load. You can get factory seconds at the pro shop also. Makes for some very inexpensive "quality" loads.
