6.5 JDJ Range Report

I found my load for a new to me 6.5 JDJ SSK barrel Contender. The scope is a Burris 2x-7x.
The load consist of the Nosler 120 gr BT, 36.0 grs RL15, 225 Win case and a Federal GM210M primer.
The 4 shot group at 100 yds measures .550". Shot #'s 1,2,4 go .255".
Should make a great WT deer load.

yep JD, you will be pleasantly surprised at the results. The 6.5JDJ does far more than the case should. I've taken several deer and coyotes with ground hog and prairee dogs thrown in for grins. I even let youngsters shoot it. Mine has a bipod ,so recoil is no problem.

I really like the 6.5 JDJ. What bullet have you used for deer hunting and what kind of expansion/penetration did you get?

I have shot and recovered 3 120 gr BT's from water jugs at 100 yds and they all retained their lead core.

I had a contender in 7-30 waters. Excellent caliber and accurate shooter. Shot a small 10pt with it the only year I hunted with it. Then I got stupid and traded it towards a rifle. Only gun I wish I had not traded. Enjoy that 6.5.

Go get another T/C Contender! I also have a 7-30 Waters. Very accurate T/C barrel, best 3 shot group measured .225" with the 120 gr BT and 34.5 grs of Varget!

I took my Contender 6.5 JDJ out to the range this weekend and shot a 3 shot group that measured .374".
I am shooting the 120 gr Nosler BT with 35.0 grs RL15, W-W case and Federal GM210M primers.

JD is that 100 yard group? It's fantastic. Better than some of my rifle group. I have a 35 Remington TC which I plan to use on hogs here in California. 6.5 JDJ is one barrel I would like to own. I heared a lot of good things about the round. I might order one from Bullberry.

Yes, this is a 100 yd group. The Barrel is a SSK and the accuracy is excellent. I have only used the 120 gr BT which is a great bullet for the 6.5 JDJ.
The 35 Remington should be great for hogs. Have you considered the 180 gr Nosler Partition?
