I Tested the 6.5mm Rem Mag with the 125 gr PT for expansion in water jugs. Range was 50 yds and the MV is an estimated 3050 fps as I did not set up the Oehler 35 chronograph as it was getting dark.
I took the first shot and found a perfect mushroom in jug #5. The bullet retained the front lead core and weighed 87.8 grs, expanded to .582".

I only had 4 jugs left so I placed heavy card board between the jugs and more behind #4 with a 1/2" plywood plank set up at a 45* angle. The bullet went through everything, dented the plywood and deflected into the ground. Another perfect mushroom! Expansion was .626" and recovered weight was 78.8 grs after losing the front core.
This is a serious bullet.

Jim those are making me rethink the 130gr AB. Those look excellent and really seem to be perfect in your 6.5. Depending on how the ABs shoot, PTs are next. Scotty

Jim -
I should remember this, but what jug do you find the bullets from the RUM? I can't imagine anyone questioning why they need to join the club after seeing this  .

That'll punch through an antelope AND an elk when they're standing side-by-side. How's accuracy coming, Jim?

Joel,

The 250 gr PT from the 338 RUM does 8 jugs of water.

Mike,

I am shooting this weekend. I shimmed the action to float the barrel. I think she will shoot better.

My 338 went 9 jugs at 25 yard with that 275gr Speer. I wonder how many jugs the 264 would do with a 140gr PT? Scotty

I think you need to give them a go and find out  .

I just might grab a box shortly Joel. These ABs are cute butthe PTs are just tough to the core! Ha. I do like the PTs and can't really see much difference in accuracy most of the time. I believe 140's and Retumbo will be an incredible match up. It seems to like the higher pressures before it really starts to show it's stuff. Scotty

Jim -

Impressive "little" round - I never have shot any @ 50yds, have always been 100yds and
find the 130AB's in jug #5 usually from the .260

Can't wait to see how the load development comes along.

You guys are killing me here! I need to get some empty jugs and go shoot bullets in them. I need to try the 90 gr. E-Tip out of my boys 6mm since we haven't been able to keep on in an animal so far.

JD or Scotty you have to do that at 50 yards with the AccuBond for us..............please!

When I tried the 140's @ around 3070 fps they did 6 milk jugs. If I can find my pics tonight I can post some pics in a new thread.

Enjoying your threads JD :)

I will test them both at 50, 100, 200 and 300 yds.
I need to start drinking more milk.

Cool Jim!
I haven't done any expansion/penetration testing with my 125PT loads out of the 17" Encore at 2800fps. Might be interesting to see how much if any difference there might be.

David if I find a good shooting fast load you all will be sick of seeing the pictures of it! I will most definitely run them into water jugs.

JD338 I'm not trying to steal your thunder, just share it. I had to get out today and do this. I shot at 100 yards and this is the results. As you said just before this post, I too want to test them at different distances. I want to do the 300 next as I want to see how the E-Tip is expanding as it slows a little! You are correct, that's a lot of milk to drink... :p
Ruger MKII 6mm Remington 90 gr. E-Tip at 3160 fps.
Ruger #1B 30-06 165 gr. AccuBond at 2940 fps.
Ruger #1B 6mm Remington 100 gr. Partition at 3100 fps.

All stopped in gallon jug number six. Here are the numbers.
E-Tip- weighed 89 grs. (89% retention), expanded to .568
AccuBond- weighed 115 grs. (70% retention), expanded to .650
Partition- weighed 65 grs. (65% retention), expanded to .565 at greatest spread but overall was less than the E-tip in the 6mm.
No-one told me about the Mayhem that would result!

This was a lot of fun and I think it's great to share with folks so we all can see how these wonderful Nosler's work, and some of those other brands not to be naed as well!

David,

It's a good thing I wasn't in a hurry. Had I stopped at the first picture, I would have thought that you missed all the way around. It is always interesting to see recovered bullets. They performed about as expected, with the exception of the E-Tip. I would have anticipated more weight retention. Nevertheless, there is plenty of weight left to account for game. I sure hope you shared some of that milk with your son. He's a growing boy.

In case you are wondering, in the photo with the jugs all nicely lined up and then it shows the AccuBond being shot, it shows four non-damaged jugs in the left lane which was the E-Tip lane. There are four left in that one as I never recovered that E-Tip and had to shoot that one again. I was not lined up quite well enough, hit just a touch high, and with my slight angle, the E-tip went out of the jugs and into the target berm on the left side. Next shot I got right under the bench and was laying down.

How I did this is I shot my "SHOT ONE & DONE- 2ND SHOT" and then shot the jugs with the same rifle and bullet. I put the ruined jugs over to the side out of the way. When I was all finished, I lined up my row for the E-Tip and did that one again. I was shooting off my Blacks Creek Canadian pack just like I did for the shot immediately prior to this.

David,

Nicely done. Great bullet performance.
