6.5 Swede - Variety of bullets with RL26

Dewey has been pushing me some excellent data using RL26 in the 25-06 and 243. He also passed me some great data for the 338 Win Mag and the little 6.5 Swede. I am amazed how versatile this powder looks from such small cases and how well it fits in there.

I loaded some 108 Lapua Scenars, 130 Nosler ABs, 130 Swift Scirocco's, and 156 Lapua Megas all with RL26. I'll have to let Dewey put up the QL charts but it looked dang good across the board.

I was amazed to see how close in Length the Lapua Scenar 108 was to the 130 AB.



Looking forward to working the little Swede out soon. Should be a fun day at the range.

 
Those loooooong bullets sure do stand out, don't they? Should produce some fascinating results.
 
Just shows the versatility of the 6.5x55 that is quite a spread in bullet weight. It will handle them all quite well I'm sure. I did a bullet test of the 130 gr Swift from a 264 WM, would be interesting to see how they end up working from your 6.5x55. The 155 gr Mega bullet is one that has always intrigued me, it has a great reputation as a game bullet. Looking forward to your results..........
 
Those 155 gr Mega bullets look cool, they just look like they will give a good smack down just sitting there ;)
 
I always thought the swede would be a good workhorse of a hunting cartridge . I'm interested in seeing how this works out , Scotty .

Impressive ballistics with that 130 gr. AccuBond Scotty. Man I think that is what I would use if it shoots them. 6.5 Swede in a modern action and loaded like any other modern round and 3000 fps. Impressive! (y)
 
God that caliber is a real "Swedeheart", what a little killer it really is! Now if I could just find some RL 26 to try in my 270! :|
This caliber is one of those that never made much sense to me, as on paper years ago it never really looked that impressive,However in the field we found it to be much more effective than its numbers indicated? My Dad shot a bunch of big Northern Whitetails, and some impressive
Moose, and it proved to be extremely effective on both.Those long bullets got deep Penetration and just seamed to be exactly what the good Dr ordered for ultra quick kills. We found it to be a sleeper caliber for sure, he always told folks when they asked why he hunted
With the little swede? " Gosh I could shoot a dinosaur with that gun"

PS. If I were to ever do a build , I would be some tempted to buy a 6.5/06 barrel and screw it onto a Model 70 Featherweight! Then I would basically have the 25 Whelen with bullets that have BC , one could only dream of. What a Swedehart that would be!!! (y)
 
Looking forward to your results with these loads.

My experience with my Swedes was mostly with the 140 gr PT's and X Bullets, but had good results with the Hornady Interlocks and SGK's as we'll.

My Remington 700 Classic preferred the PT's and X's over max loads of IMR 4350 as listed in their respective loading manuals of the early 90's, and would put 5 rounds into less than an inch at 200 yards when I did my part.

The rifle also accounted for deer, moose and a cow elk.
 
Interested to see what you come up with. I think R26 is on the slow side for this cartridge with the possible exception of your 156 Megas. It's been my experience, even in my long barreled M96 and M41B that I get best accuracy with IMR 4350 across the board. Haven't tested for velocity, I'm punching CMP targets with it. Have also done well with 4064 and the 123 grain Nosler BTHP. This round seems to like medium-slow powders, as the geometry would suggest.
