6.5 Weatherby... Boddington

I would have been all over a 6.5 on the shorter case as well. I do have some interest in the bigger 6.5-300 Wby though. I do appreciate the longer neck compared to the 26 Nosler which apparently helps with less throat erosion.

Yes, the good old .257 Wby is still capable of busting a 100 gr bullet to 3,600+ fps too... Been doing that kind of thing for what, 60 or 70 years?

Hmmm, a 6.5 has really got my attention . I would love to put together a 6.5 Creedmore using a 700 CDL & a 243 for a donor !!

Blessings,
Dan

According to noted hunter & shooter Craig Boddington - he just shot a .29" group from his new 6.5 Weatherby, at 100 yards.

Bullet is the 127 gr Barnes LRX at a scorching 3530 fps!

Yowza! Nice shooting. Nice rifle. Nice cartridge.

Kudos to Weatherby for listening to the consumer and also their willingness to bring a new cartridge to market. That being said, I was hoping for a 257,270,7mm based 6.5. Just seems like the 300 based round burns a crap load more powder for not much gain in velocity. Heck, I can get within 100 fps of the 6.5x300 shooting 130's with my 270 Roy.

...gotta factor in the 130gr. 6.5 bullet is gonna have a higher BC/ SD, plus an extra 100fps., ain't gonna make much difference out to 400yds., but beyond that it really starts to tell...

Absolutely gene. Long range is where the 6.5 really shines. The 127 LRX unfortunately doesn't have that high of a BC, especially compared to the .277, 129 LRX. .468 vs .463. Step up to a VLD type bullet and the 6.5 easily bests the .277.
