700 CDL in .30-06

Crap, guys, you can get a nearly new 270Win or 30-06 Extreme Weather Winchester right now at a gunshop I frequent for below the asking prices of $750-800. I suspect any one of the three or four examples they have in the shop could be had for about 90% of the asking price, give or take a bit.

Guy,

You already know I just bought a model 70 in 30-06, its the Ultimate Shadow version...Not exactly pretty, I don't like the looks of the stock, but it sure is a shooter. I'm gonna change the stock later...

My point is....for $700 you can be out the door with a new M70 (if you get the ugly plastic stock)

You can find M70 Featherweights in 30-06 for 650 all day long. Much the same as the CDL but a little shorter barrel. Very impressed with the 300WSM I have. I think the Featherweight and CDL have alot going for them.

Check out page 56-57...

I know you might have to order one in, but there around. Lots offer free shipping as well.

Seems like I was just in Cabelas in Hamburg Pa and the Featherweights were running about 650-680 for standard chamberings? Maybe not, but they are there. Scotty

I got mine already, I didn't want the Featherweight (the light barrel wasn't in line with what I wanted the rifle for)...I'm well pleased with the Ultimate Shadow, it shoots great (1 MOA with decent factory ammo, like the website says), the 24" barrel means I don't have to push the loads to get the speed up which is good for what I want the rifle for (medium range deer, coyote, groundhog, bear, whatever the case may be)

I fully expect this to be the last bolt action rifle I'll ever buy.

They are a good buy in comparison to what Remington is charging for their CDL's. They are charging alot of money for their rifles and you aren't getting a big warm and fuzzy with some of them. That Ultimate Shadow is a great rifle really. Add a good solid stock to it and you are into them for less than the EW.

Ridge, do you have any pictures of the new 30-06? Scotty

McMillian has certainly introduced the element of choice into the business of rifle stocks. There are some interesting possibilities presented.

I'll see if I can take a pic here in a bit...I have some, but they were taken before I put the scope on.

Remember ANTELOPE TAGS.......! :) I wont retell the story of the Ruger RSI in 250-3000 Savage with a K-4 that I could have had for $200.00..... Thought the baby girl needed diapers....

Your 25-06 will do all the .30 would. Its just fun to load for a .30 I expect. CL

I've never had any plans to get used to that stock...it'll be wearing a McMillan before deer season comes around again.

What pattern?

I just saw that B&C offers their Medalist in an Alaskan for the M70. I am pretty sure when money permits, I am going to stick my original M70 7 Rem Mag into one. The rifle is a great shooter and needs a good platform. Plus, for 200.00, it is hard to mess with much else. The B&C's I have worked with thus far are excellent. Scotty

I haven't gotten a stock yet...stuff got in the way...I'm still getting one though. I have no idea exactly which flavor yet...McMillan has some nice ones to choose from.

RR nice rifle you got there. I bet I'm right there with Scotty in saying you sure picked a great round too in that awesome 30-06! :p He's just glad he didn't get one of those right off the bat or he would not have any reason to own any additional rifles!! Any idea what you are going to load in it yet?

IMR4350 and 165 gr. Partitions and Accubonds sure go together nicely. 57.4 grs. in two 30-06 rifles I have had and both love that load. Seems like lots of guys on the site have had great success with that powder and bullets with between 56-58 grs.

I think I'm with you and not sure I can get used to that "Ultimate Shadow" stock either. Maybe you can sell it so off-set the cost of the one you are going to purchase.
David
