700 CDL in .30-06

I have a couple of loads worked up for it...

168 Ballistic Tips
58 grains of H4350
Win brass
CCI BR2 primer
2,850 fps

Thats my deer load...shoots cloverleafs.

The other load is just something I came up with while messing around with Berger bullets (175 VLD's) just to see how the Winny shot and fed them...they also shoot cloverleafs at 2,820 fps.

That sounds very nice. You might be able to insert the 165 gr. AccuBond and get really lucky and have it shoot as well and to the same point of impact! It an happen, and then you could use one load for deer and lighter boned stuff and the AccuBond for elk or larger animals. That sounds like a great load you have. Do you like the BR2 Primer? I've heard of guys really seeing some improvements in groups going with them.

Its been a long time since I used anything but BR2 primers...had a few Rem and Win primers that didn't go off...one of them was when I was attempting to shoot a pretty nice buck. I did get him after ejecting the dud, the next one fired...but it was a lucky shot, deer running about Mach 9 through the trees...

I went that day and bought CCI BR2's and have never looked back....haven't had any more duds either.

If I ever get lucky enough to hunt elk...I may try the AB, but I'm pretty well set on the BT's...They tear up some meat, but they kill pretty quick too. I don't believe there has ever been a better deer bullet than the BT's.

I've seen 25 caliber BT's explode, but they still put the deer down in its tracks...from 270 on up, they have always served me well.

I believe the 180's would do fine even on an elk.

I believe Tennessee has a few elk now and maybe even have an elk hunt, or one in the near future? I know that several other states near you have elk herds too, but it's like drawing a sheep tag out here. Many applicants and not many available permits.

Nice shooting.
