Between now and this summer I plan on buying a Savage Mod 16 weather warrior or a Mod 11 hunter in 7MM-08 and wanted to know what powders everyone was using for this caliber?
I have the following powders on hand.

Varget
IMR-4064
H380
IMR-4350

I have a good supply of 7mm bullets on hand and thought I'd start out with 120 to 140 bullets in this caliber and the only powder I dont have on hand that I'd like to give a try is Ramshot BigGame.

My experience handloading for the 7mm-08 is limited. I have only used H4895 and Varget. Albeit, with very good results with both. H4895 and Nosler Ballistic tips and Varget/ SPEER 130 grains BTSP yield Sub-MOA 5-shot groups when I do my part.

Later in the year I would like to experiment with Varget and 120 grains NBT and 140grains Accubonds. And, I also want to try H4350 with the latter.

Good Luck

I have two 7mm08's . my tikka I use 139BTSP with IMR4064 powder . it works well . in my rem I use RL17 with a 140 berger hunting vld . it's giving around 3075FPS velocity and very good accuracy . if you are looking for speed I think RL17 is what you need to try . Jim

I loaded a 7mm-08 with RL 19 and 140 gr PT's. Accuracy was under MOA.

In my 7-08 rifles Varget and IMR 4064 have worked out best for me. They are nearly interchangable for load data. (As is Vitavouri N140) I also had good luck with either IMR 4350 or H 4350 with 140 grain bullets.

When forced to find a load for a "no lead" bullet here in CA, I wound up using IMR 4064 with the 120 grain Barnes TSX. My 700 Remington Mountain Rifle LSS shoots best with IMR 4064, Barnes 120 grain TSX bullets and Fed 210M primers.

For 120gr NBT and 139gr SST I too have enjoyed success with Varget and IMR-4064. With the 154 and 160gr bullets, IMR-3031 has worked the best.

Great cartridge choice. You won't be disappointed.

TOP powders for velocity plus accuracy for 130, 140, 150 and 160 gr are

130gr - RL17, H414, W760, Big Game, IMR4895, RL15

140-145gr - RL17, W760, H414, Big Game, IMR4895, RL15, H4350

150gr - H4350, RL17, W760, Hunter, H414

160gr - Hunter, H4350, W760, RL17, IMR4350, H414

RL 19
IMR 4350
varget.

Always got great results from them.

Lighter bullets...R15
heavier bullets...H414
I don't shoot anything heavier than 150 grain bullets in this caliber.

I am loading for a Rem SPS in 7mm08. I have a one pounder of H380, that I am trying to work with, and it looks like it might be good with 120 to 140gr pills. Speer 13 manual has loads for H380 in 7-08, so that might be worth checking into.

Thanks everyone! Looks like I've got what I need to start off with. I'm going to check on prices for both models in the next week or so and go from there.

I had the best luck with Big Game, but also had good luck with Varget, and H4350. I was mainly shooting the 120 BT, and the 140 AB. I played with a few boxes of 120 TSX as well.

in my rifle top velocities came from W760. best accuracy w/ 4064. a friend uses RL19 w/ great accuracy results. 140 grain bullets in both rifles. great cartridge btw.

I rarely go much further when I find a pretty accurate load. Fortunately that was my first load in my 7mm-08 with 140 grain Ballistic Tips and Ramshot Big Game. Its basically a ball powder that is pretty close to 4895 burn speed. I was pretty happy with 3/4MOA. It shot the exact same POA and groups as Nosler Custom ammunition with the 140 AB.
