7mmWSM VS 280-AI

Lol, that should make things interesting :)

To muddy the waters even further there is also the 7x64 Brenneke which is a dead ringer in performance to the 284 Win and 280 Rem. Loaded to the same pressure those rounds come very close to matching the 280 AI. In other words pick the one you like and go for it there is no real difference in the field :)

gerry, that is the way I see it also. I am very happy with my 7 mm SAUM. Now, IF I could just get some Lapua brass for it !!!!! Know that is only a dream but it would be nice.

My buddy Greg shoots a 7mm WSM (New Haven built M70 Super Shadow)....he's had a terrible time finding brass.

That thing is a laser though, he shoots 140's in it...he loves it, but gets frustrated with finding components...told me the other day he was gonna use his 308 this year.

I'm too hard headed to give mine up. It's a laser with 160ABs.

I don't blame you...told Greg a few years back that he needed to buy all the ammo he could afford, whenever and wherever he found it...he didn't.

Its real good round, way too good to be struggling like it is...but its not the first one thats happened to....280, 284, 7mm SUAM...what is it with 7mm's?

No idea. I keep 200 pieces of brass around for mine. It's tough stuff and if you take care of it, it really lasts. Love my little 7.

Flip a coin, they are both very good rounds.
I must admit that I am a little partial to the 280AI for some reason.

One thing that might be useful information here...

Norma makes brass for the 300 Rem SAUM, and I think Nosler sells it too...which is very easy to size down to 7mm Rem SUAM.

From 6mmBR website... http://www.6mmbr.com/7mm284.html

Necking-Down Norma 300 SAUM Brass
With Norma SAUM brass, there's not much you need to do but neck the cases down to 7mm from 30 caliber. Since this is a rather large reduction (from .308 to .284), you may want to do it in two steps. You can start with a 7mm SAUM body die from Redding. This has a bit of a funnel so the 300 SAUM necks go in smoothly, and will reduce in diameter part-way. Then finish with a neck-sizing die with appropriate bushing. Note: since the bushing won't size the neck all the way down to the neck-shoulder junction, you should check your necked-down brass for fit in your chamber before you add powder and seat the bullets. If necessary, run the necked-down Norma brass through a conventional 7mm SAUM full-length sizing die. This last step will probably not be necessary, but you should definitely see if your brass chambers before you charge the cases and seat bullets.

I am glad that I chose my 280AI & with the 150gr. ABLRs I believe I have got something real special!
Now I just have to draw blood with it !

Blessings,
Dan
