9.5" 44 redhawk

i was out shooting over the cronograph today. 240gr nosler, 24gr H4227 was the most accurate, at 1399fps. the fastest was a load out of a very old book, with some very old AL8. 240gr nosler at 1559fps for a 12 shot average. still can not find a good load for the 300gr nosler.

Try H-110. I have done well with it both over the chrono and accuracy. But I prefer the nosler 200gr HP for everything I have shot including a very large black bear.

I'd try the 250 Partition if sticking with Nosler. I kinda like the 240 XTP.
H110 and W296 have the same burn rate and were made for magnums. Either one should do the trick.

20 gr of H110. LILgun works well also.

h110 has just sprayed the 300gr bullets out of this redhawk, moderate accuracy with h4227 and 240gr bullets. 20gr of h110 with 300gr noslers gave 1250fps and 6"- 8" 50yd groups.

Try W296 (although I have heard that that it is identical to H110) or lilgun

last time i was at nosler there was no 44 bullets, so untill i find some i'll have to play with other things. anyone ever seen load data for steel powder in magnum pistol

i found some hornady 265gr interbonds. great looking bullit and i wanted to try some flatpoints. so i'll test h110 and h4227.

The 265 flat point Hornady is designed to be used in higher velocity rifles like 444 marlin; not 44 mag revolvers, because they wont open up well, per the hornady tech I talked to a few years ago.

should get very good penetration then. just loaded 10 with h110 to test. should be a great bullet for bear and bigfoot.

Up here in North Dakota we used to have a crazy guy that loaded for alot of police depts. accross the US. From what we heard he got put out of buisiness seemed like he was trying to blow up every 9mm carried by the boys in blue. But he did one thing right heavy bullet loads for the 44 mag. and the best one was, and i have used it in my redhawk, 17.2grs of AA#9 and a 300 gr bullet. WLP primer, it even worked well with the 310gr bullets i cast

I'm sitting here waiting for UPS to pick up the redhawk. ruger customer service is prompt. I sent E-mail saturday, monday morning ruger call me and arrainged the prepaid pickup for service. I think the barrel is shot on this gun but we will find out. Very erratic accuracy is the motive for returning it for inspection. Gun was made in 91 and i bought it used

I did load up some, they just shot like everything else. Poor accuracy, low velocity. One thing about this redhawk. On some loads it shoots about 100fps under book for a 6" barrel data load. That is one reason i think the 9.5" barrel is shot
